How To Defrost Whirlpool Refrigerator?

If your Whirlpool refrigerator gets frosted inside, you need to defrost it so it can work properly. Also, a frosting refrigerator takes more energy to cool the substances.

Most new-age refrigerators come with an auto-defrost feature, so if your refrigerator has one, you can use it to defrost it. However, if your refrigerator doesn’t have this feature, you can manually defrost it by turning off the refrigerator and leaving the door open so the ice can melt.

In this article, I will explain the exact steps to defrost your Whirlpool refrigerator. So, keep reading.

Why does a Whirlpool refrigerator frost?

A refrigerator frosts when warm or humid air goes inside and gets cooled.

There are reasons why a refrigerator frosts inside.

Dysfunctional defrost cycle

Many whirlpool refrigerators come with an automatic defrost mechanism.

When the refrigerator starts frosting, the timer detects it and activates the heater to defrost the coils.

If any defroster system components get damaged, the cycle will stop, and the refrigerator will get frosted.

Lack of air circulation

If the air vent of the freezer gets blocked and air does not circulate properly inside the refrigerator, it can cause frosting inside the freezer.

Also, if your refrigerator is fully packed, it is also why it is getting frosted.

Put warm food inside.

If you put warm food inside the refrigerator, it will mix with the cool air and make frosts inside the refrigerator.

Damaged door seal

If the door seal is damaged or not airtight, then the humid or warm air goes inside from the outside.

And it gets to mix with the refrigerator’s cold air and make frosts inside.

How to defrost a Whirlpool refrigerator?

You can follow these steps to defrost your Whirlpool refrigerator:

1. Unplug the refrigerator

The first step to defrost your refrigerator is to turn it off and unplug the power cord from the power supply of your house.

Once it is done, move forward the refrigerator from the wall so that you can clean it properly.

Make sure you keep your refrigerator door open so that air can flow inside and you can defrost the refrigerator quickly.

2. Empty your refrigerator

The next step is to empty your refrigerator.

Remove all the foods and items from the refrigerator.

First, start with the containers.

And if any food items need to be preserved in a cooler environment, pour them into a vessel, cover them with a lid, and keep them in a cold place.

3. Remove the drawers and shelves

Once you remove all items, the next step is removing the drawers and shelves and emptying the refrigerator.

Make sure you don’t break the shelves when removing them.

If the shelves and drawers get frosted, then melt the ice and remove them.

4. Use towels/clothes to soak the drain water

When you remove the shelves and drawers by opening the refrigerator door, the ice inside the refrigerator starts melting.

This is because you find a lot of water draining from the refrigerator.

You need to soak the water using towels and clothes. Some refrigerators have drain hoses.

If your refrigerator has one, place the end on the low basin; water will drain through it.

5. Melt the ice

Now the most important part of the defrosting process is melting the ice.

This part takes a long time, and you must do it patiently.

Make sure you use a towel or cloth to soak up the drained water.

You can melt the ice in your refrigerator in many ways.

These are some of the most common ways to defrost your refrigerator.

6. Allow air inside the refrigerator

In this step, you can simply open the refrigerator’s door and allow the air to flow inside your refrigerator.

The air temperature is the same as room temperature, so it will be warmer than the freezer temperature.

This is why the ice inside the temperature will start melting.

But it takes a long time to melt the ice.

If you want to speed up the process, follow the next steps.

  • Place a bowl of warm water: Take a bowl of hot water and place it into the refrigerator. Put a towel or thick cloth under the bowl, which will prevent the refrigerator’s surface from damaging. Ensure you keep closing the door and don’t open it until the water temperature reaches room temperature. This way, you can melt the ice.
  • Use a hair dryer: Another way you can melt your ice is by using a hair dryer. Run the hair dryer over the refrigerator in hot air mode. This way, it will melt even the most stubborn chunks.

To clean small ice particles:

  1. Keep a plastic spatula in your hand.
  2. Slide it thoroughly to clear the ice from the freezer.
  3. Don’t use metals like knives; ensure the spatula doesn’t chip into the surfaces.
  4. Keep in mind that the hair dryer doesn’t touch the appliance because the hair dryer can make an electric reaction in touch with the hair dryer.
  • Use a fan: Using a fan will speed up the defrosting process. It not only defrosts the refrigerator but also evaporates the water. To use a fan, first, you need to open the refrigerator door, place the fan in front of the refrigerator, and turn it on. You can also place the fan on the back side of the refrigerator if there is any ice.

7. Soak water and clean inside the refrigerator

When you defrost, water will start melting and drain through the refrigerator.

You need to take a towel or thick cloth and mop it up inside the refrigerator.

It is also a great opportunity to properly clean your refrigerator from the inside.

8. Replace the items

Once all the ice melts and you mop up the refrigerator, you need to replace the items you removed inside the refrigerator.

First, start by installing the shelves and drawers one by one.

Then place the food items on the shelves and inside the drawers.

Now check if you replaced all the items properly that you removed before or not.

9. Turn on and plug in the refrigerator

Once you have installed all the items, close the refrigerator door and unplug it from the power supply of your house.

Now turn on the refrigerator.

Fix the problem with the defrost cycle

A typical defrost circuit in a refrigerator consists of a defrost timer or electronic control that supplies power to the heating circuit.

Now the heating circuit has a defrost thermostat or termination thermostat to cut the cycle off once the evaporator temperature is high enough that it should have melted all that frost off the evaporator.

The thermostat is a safety device to make sure that it is here.

It does not stay too long.

At freezing, temperatures that defrost the thermostat should show zero continuity.

It may prove difficult to check if your refrigerator needs to be fixed or if you have had to remove the evaporator cover to access it.

It may have warmed up enough, making it difficult to test whether it is good.

The heater has very low continuity, typically between 10 and 50 ohms, which you can check with a multimeter

Now the mechanical timer can be advanced into a defrost cycle by using a flat-blade screwdriver and rotating that dial, which is typically accessible.

The timer is normally mounted in the control housing.

If you advance that timer in a clockwise direction until you hear an alert, clicking it should indicate that it is in the defrost cycle.

If you wait 20-30 minutes, you should see some steam from the evaporator area and some drained water.

If you manually put the timer through a defrost cycle and the circuit works properly, and you do get to defrost, suspect that the timer is the issue.

If you advance it to defrost mode and do not get the defrost action, suspect that either the heater or the thermostat would be your problem.

Fix the refrigerator door seal

First, you need to open the door and pull the older door seal out from behind the door liner and remove it from the door.

Now use a putty knife to remove the excess foam from behind the liner.

Make sure the putty knife stays within the liner.

Now you are ready to install the new door gasket.

Starting at the top, insert the lip of the seal or gasket behind the door liner and snap it into place, continuing along the sides and bottom until the gasket is fully installed.

Now close the door and check if the seal sets flush against the cabinet frame.

If not, you can use a hair dryer set on low to make the gasket more pliable so that it will seal properly.

Final words

Defrosting is the best way to clean your refrigerator and keep it well-functioning. You must defrost it once or twice a year so that it works properly. You can easily defrost your Whirlpool refrigerator by following the steps I stated before.

To keep your Whirlpool refrigerator from frosting, you need to keep your refrigerator door closed for a short minute and not place warm food inside the refrigerator. First, cool the food, then place it inside the refrigerator.

After following the article, if you are still unable to defrost your refrigerator, then you can call the expert.

5 Reasons Your Keurig Keeps Shutting Off (+Fix)

Keurig is the savior in preparing an instant cup of fresh coffee at home when you crave it. But it will be disappointing to confront the Keurig that keeps shutting off when you crave your coffee. If you want to know the causes and steps to fix the issue, you are at the right place.

Your Keurig will keep shutting off if the bottom of the K-cup is unpunctured. In such a case, you need to clean the needles. Check if the magnet in the water reservoir is misaligned. If that is the case, align the magnet manually. If nothing else works, try to reset your Keurig.

In this article, you will understand the common causes and easy steps to fix the issues. You will also know tips to maintain your Keurig at the end of the article. So, keep reading.

Why does my Keurig keep shutting off? (Fix)

Monday last week, I first encountered my Keurig shutting off frequently while brewing the coffee.

I was in a hurry to go out for important work after coffee, but a Keurig was shutting, and not making coffee ruined my morning.

Are you facing the same struggle with your Keurig?

Do you feel annoyed about not being able to have your fresh cup of coffee at home?

I can understand how it would feel to get up in the morning only to see a Keurig not working as it should.

But worry not!

I have shared the possible causes and steps to fix the issues in Keurig.

You have to figure out the cause of the issue in your Keurig and fix the faults.

Let’s dive in!

1. K-cup unpunctured bottom

K-cup at the bottom not being unpunctured is the most common cause of why a Keurig keeps shutting off.

To understand the issue, let’s get a basic understanding of how Keurig works.

Keurig, unlike other coffee machines, gives customized coffees individually.

K- cups are plastic cups containing coffee with a vacuum seal.

A vacuum seal helps to retain the flavor and freshness of a coffee.

They are sealed with an aluminum cover to prevent moisture from creeping inside the cups.

In the bottom of the k-cups, you can find a filter at the bottom of k-cups to brew the coffee.

These k-cups are kept inside the Keurig to brew the coffee.

The needles in the Keurig puncture the top and the bottom of the k-cup to brew the coffee.

After the needle punctures the top of the k-cup, the Keurig will blow the water into the K-cup, puncturing the bottom cup to pour the coffee into the filter.

In this stage, you can choose the size you want.

If you want a strong coffee, you can choose the small size.

For diluted coffee, you can choose the large size.

Now, the coffee flows through the bottom punctured hole of the cup.

If the bottom cup is not punctured, the coffee won’t pour into the cup, and your Keurig will shut off.

To fix this issue, you must manually take out the Keurig K-cup to puncture the bottom of the K-cup.

You can remove the K-cup from the Keurig and puncture the bottom of the cup.

However, this is not the permanent fix to the issue.

You would have to open the Keurig to check the condition of the needle to fix this issue permanently.

Follow the steps below to fix the issue:

  • Open the Keurig to access the holder which holds the K-cup.
  • A K-cup is placed inside the holder to brew the coffee. To access the internal parts of the Keurig, you must remove the holder.
  • Pull the holder out by releasing the locking tab and clips holding it in place.
  • After removing the holder from the Keurig, clean it with soap and hot water to remove the accumulated dirt and debris.
  • At the bottom of the holder, you will find a needle that punctures the bottom of the K-cup.
  • You can use a paperclip to clean the needle to remove residue coffee grains stuck with the needle. Or you can replace it with a new needle if it is completely damaged.
  • Access the top needle and clean it to remove any dirt and coffee residue.
  • Now, detach the water tank from the Keurig and unload all the water from it.
  • Clean it with soapy water to remove dirt and debris.
  • Next, remove the top of the Keurig by unthreading the two screws.
  • Remove the screen acting as a filter and clean it with a brush to remove dirt and debris accumulation.
  • Reattach the water tank and k-cup holder.
  • Reattach the screen to the top of the Keurig.

Other common causes of the unpunctured bottom of the K-cup are misplacing the cups or using the wrong k-cups in the Keurig.

If you are using the wrong K-cups in the Keurig, the needle will try to puncture the cup.

A needle may be broken or bent if the cup is hard to puncture.

2. The magnet in the water reservoir is misaligned

A Keurig has a water reservoir to brew the coffee.

The water reservoir has a magnet to sense the load of water.

If no water is in the reservoir, a magnet senses and refills it to the tank to brew the coffee.

As the coffee maker tends to vibrate during brewing time, there are chances for the magnet to realign.

If the magnet is misaligned, a Keurig won’t sense the water in the tank, resulting in the issue.

To fix this issue, you must realign the magnet manually.

Here is how you can realign the magnet inside the water tank:

  • Unplug the Keurig from the electric outlet.
  • Locate the water reservoir tank in your Keurig. The location of the Keurig may be according to the model of Keurig. Consider referring to the user manual to find the water reservoir in your Keurig.
  • Pull the tank from the Keurig by releasing the retaining clips and locking tabs.
  • Usually, water reservoirs are closed with a lid. Remove the lid to access the magnet.
  • You can locate the magnet at the bottom of the water tank.
  • Put your hands inside the water reservoir to align the magnet.
  • Push the magnet from the misaligned position to the aligned position.
  • Lock the magnet to its slot and close the water reservoir lid.
  • Reattach the water reservoir to the Keurig and secure it with the retaining lock.
  • Plug it in and check if the issue is solved.

3. Your Keurig needs cleaning

If your Keurig keeps shutting off, it would be due to the mineral deposit in the Keurig.

If there is mineral and dirt accumulation in the Keurig, it will affect its normal functionality.

To fix this issue, you must descale your Keurig.

There are different cleaning methods for the Keurig based on when you are cleaning it.

They are:

  • Weekly
  • Once every two months
  • Once every six months

Here is how you can clean your Keurig weekly:

  • Unplug the Keurig from the electric outlet.
  • Detach all the removable parts. You can remove the water reservoir, k-cup, lid, and tray.
  • As you use Keurig frequently, these parts get clogged with coffee residue and sticky dirt. So, cleaning all the removable parts once a week is important.
  • Prepare hot water, add a cleaning solution to the bowl, and pour the hot water into it.
  • Run soapy water into a k-cup, lid, water reservoir, and tray.
  • Use a brush to remove any excess dirt from the surface.
  • After cleaning all the parts, use a towel to dry them.
  • Now, clean the exterior of the Keurig with a cotton cloth.
  • Soak the cloth in warm soapy water and remove dirt and dust from the exterior of the Keurig.
  • Now, reattach the water reservoir by locking it in a slot.
  • Reattach the k-cup and lid.
  • Reattach the tray and plug in the Keurig.

Start brewing the coffee and inspect if the issue is solved.

If not, it must be due to another fault.

Continue reading to find the other causes and fixes.

Here is how you can clean once every two months:

You must clean the water filter, filter holder, and K-cup holders every two months to avoid issues in your Keurig.

  • Unplug the Keurig from the electric outlet and secure the power code from getting damaged during the cleaning process.
  • Remove the k-cup holder from the Keurig and wash it with soapy water.
  • Remove the water filters and soak them for 15 minutes in warm soapy water. Clean them with a brush to remove the excess dirt and debris accumulation.
  • Remove the water filter holder from the Keurig by releasing the locking tabs. Soak them in soapy water and clean them with a brush.
  • Reattach the filters and holders to the Keurig.
  • Plug in the device and check if the issue is solved.

Here is how you can clean every six months:

In this process, you need to clean the interior parts of the Keurig.

  • Open the water reservoir of the Keurig and fill it with the descaling solution until it is half-filled. You can also use vinegar to descale the machine. And after filling another half of the reservoir with water.
  • Start the brewing in the Keurig without placing the k-cup. To collect the cleaning solution, place a cup on the tray.
  • Brew by selecting the large-size option in the Keurig control board.
  • Repeat the process until all the cleaning solution is emptied into the water reservoir.
  • You can confirm it when you see an add water remainder in the control panel.
  • After completing the brewing process with the cleaning solution, fill the reservoir with fresh water to remove the remaining cleaning solution residue in the Keurig.
  • After filling the fresh water in the water reservoir, don’t place the k-cups and brew until the water reservoir is empty.

Let the Keurig sit undisturbed for the next 30 minutes to dry.

Plug in the Keurig and enjoy your fresh cup of coffee.

4. Reset your Keurig

Your Keurig may shut off due to glitches in the control board and the electric components of the Keurig.

In such a case, you must reset the Keurig.

Here is how you can reset your Keurig:

  • Unplug the machine from the electric outlet.
  • Let the machine sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Plug it in again and switch on the machine.

The simple reset is complete and begins the brewing cycle to check the issue is solved.

You must do the hard reset if this doesn’t solve the issue.

Here is how you can do the hard reset:

You can do the hard reset by pressing the two buttons in the Keurig simultaneously.

  • Plug in the Keurig.
  • Locate the small cup and medium cup buttons in the Keurig. Press and hold them for 3 seconds. And release them simultaneously.
  • Press the menu option in Keurig immediately after the above step.
  • Now, you can see the clock displaying 6:09.
  • Next, again press and hold the menu option.
  • You can see the clock displaying 0:00.
  • Press and hold the medium cup button; when you are still holding it, press the menu option and release it immediately.
  • Now press the small cup button while you are still pressing the medium cup button.
  • Let the Keurig sit for 40 to 50 minutes unplugged.
  • Plug it in after 50 minutes.

If the control panel glitches are causing these issues, doing the hard reset will solve the issues.

5. Power cord issues

If you have tried all the above fixes and your Keurig is still causing issues, it must be due to the irregular power supply.

You can confirm this by checking the condition of the power cord.

If it is damaged, it may not supply enough power to the Keurig to brew a coffee.

In such a case, you must replace it with the new one.

You can also check if there are issues with the wall outlet.

You can replace the power cord by removing the bottom panel of the Keurig.

Release the retaining clips securing the faulty power code. Replace it with the new one.

Tips on maintaining Keurig to prevent it from shutting off

Like any other electrical device, it is necessary to take proper care of your Keurig to prevent it from getting faulty.

Here are some tips on proper maintenance of the Keurig:

  • The first and foremost important step in taking proper care of Keurig is to clean it regularly. Follow the steps mentioned above to clean your Keurig frequently.
  • Water cartridge refills help remove the chlorine content from the water. It is extremely important if you use hard water to brew a coffee. Changing the water cartridge refill once every 6 to 7 months is recommended.
  • Rinse your Keurig with the rinse pad once a week, as Keurig is multi-functional and can brew coffee, tea, chocolate drinks, and much more. Rinsing it with the rinse pod will help avoid a blending taste when you brew a coffee after a tea or chocolate.

How long does Keurig last?

The question comes to every one of our minds while encountering issues in Keurig.

When you see a Keurig shutting off, you don’t want to replace it immediately.

A Keurig can last up to 3 to 5 years. However, if you maintain it well, you can expand its life span.

Sometimes, a Keurig can get faulty within 5 years if you are not maintaining it properly, and you can brew more frequently.

How do you know if your Keurig is going bad?

You can confirm your Keurig is getting faulty by observing the following signs.

  • Your Keurig is taking too much time to turn on.
  • Your Keurig is taking longer than usual to brew one cup of coffee.
  • Your Keurig is having trouble dispensing water from the reservoir.
  • Your Keurig is not heating and keeps shutting off in the middle.
  • Your Keurig is indicating ADD WATER signal in the control panel, even if there is sufficient water in the tank.
  • The descale light in your Keurig keeps blinking.
  • There is leakage in the Keurig while you are brewing the coffee.
  • Your coffee is brewing bitter coffee.

These are the visible signs of your Keurig getting faulty.

In such cases, you must take immediate steps to fix the issues.

What happens if you don’t clean your Keurig?

If you don’t clean your Keurig regularly, there will be mold formation in the Keurig.

If there is mold formation, these will release toxins.

If you brew the coffee in such conditions, you will get sick and cause serious health issues.

And also, internal parts of the Keurig will start getting faulty due to the clogs of the dirt and debris.

Thus, a Keurig will not be efficient in brewing coffee.

Final thoughts

A Keurig is a frequently used electrical appliance to brew your favorite coffee or other drinks. So, taking proper care is crucial to avoid faults and failings. If your Keurig is shutting off frequently, it indicates certain faults.

It may happen when the bottom of the K-cup is not punctured. In that case, a coffee can drip into the cup, and the Keurig will shut off. Other common causes include magnets getting misaligned or power code issues. Follow the steps mentioned in the article to fix the issue.

While these are common, there are other issues, including control panel failure, thermal fuse failure, and heating element failures. These rarely occur in Keurig. In such cases, you must replace the faulty parts. You can hire a professional to replace the faulty parts in the Keurig.

5 Simple Steps To Defrost Frigidaire Refrigerator

Frigidaire refrigerator is among the best refrigerators that make your kitchen life easier. It comes with many features that keep your food fresh for a long time. But if the refrigerator is frosting up, it can be difficult to keep your food fresh or preserve it for a long time.

You can defrost your Frigidaire refrigerator by pressing the On/Off button for 3 seconds which activates the defrost cycle. You can also turn the temperature dial to zero to defrost the refrigerator. To speed up the process, use a hairdryer. If nothing works, try turning off the power supply.

In this article, I will explain 5 simple steps to defrost your Frigidaire refrigerator. So, keep reading.

Why does the Frigidaire refrigerator frost?

The main reason your Frigidaire refrigerator frosts is the warm and humid air.

If the inner part of the refrigerator comes in touch with warm air, it will mix with cold air and form ice.

There are many reasons why your refrigerator comes in touch with warm or humid air.

  • If you keep your Frigidaire refrigerator door open for a long time, warm or humid air goes inside the refrigerator and makes frost.
  • If the refrigerator’s seal is damaged or not set properly, it can also cause frosting.
  • If you place hot food inside the refrigerator, then also it can cause frosting inside the refrigerator.

The thermostat helps in the cooling system of your refrigerator.

If the refrigerator’s thermostat is damaged, the in-build defrost system does not work properly.

When the refrigerator frosts up, the automatic defrost system turns on the heater to defrost the refrigerator.

If the heater is broken, the system will not work properly, and the refrigerator won’t defrost.

The defrost timer is the main part of the defrost system of your refrigerator.

It helps to transfer the alarm.

If the refrigerator starts frosting up, the defrost timer sends signals to the defrost heater to start the heating up process for melting the ice.

5 simple steps to defrost Frigidaire refrigerator

Let’s understand how to defrost the Frigidaire refrigerator:

1. Get rid of all the items and food

Before starting the defrosting process, you need to remove all the items and food from your refrigerator to get more space and clean the refrigerator properly.

It is time to remove unused items or foods from your refrigerator.

2. Remove the shelves and drawers

Once done, the next step is to remove the shelves and drawers from your refrigerator.

Now your refrigerator is empty, and you need to defrost it now.

3. Defrost it

There are two ways you can defrost your refrigerator.

One manually and the second forcefully.

Manually: There are 3 models you can find in Frigidaire refrigerators, and they have different types of defrosting processes that you can do manually.

If your model has temperature dial settings, then you need to follow the process to defrost your Frigidaire refrigerator.

  • First, open the refrigerator. You can find thermostat dials on the appliance’s refrigerator side along the refrigerator’s top edge. You can find two thermostat dials, one for the refrigerator and the other for the freezer.
  • Find the temperature dial labeled as the freezer.
  • Once you find that, rotate the dial to 0. Once you do that, the compressor will turn off and stop the cooling. The light will stay on inside the refrigerator as this doesn’t cut the appliance’s power.
  • When the defrost cycle starts, you can see a clicking noise once. Keep the cycle on for 30 minutes.
  • Now reset the dial of the freezer temperature to your preferred setting to start the cooling again.

If your refrigerator has electronic panel settings, you must follow the steps below to defrost it.

  • The first thing you need to do is open the refrigerator side door and try to find the temperature control panel, depending on the Frigidaire model. In most refrigerators, the control panel locates on the upper edge of the refrigerator side.
  • You can find the on/off button there. Press the button and hold it down for 3 seconds and the defrost cycle will start.
  • Keep the defrost cycle on for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, turn off the cycle by holding the “on/off” button for 3 seconds.

Third, another method you can apply to defrost your refrigerator with a control panel.

  • First, open the refrigerator door of the fresh food side.
  • Confirm that the fresh food light is working. Now find the light switch for fresh food light. Use your finger to turn down and release the switch five times in six seconds. By manually doing it, start the defrost cycle.
  • Now let the cycle run for 24 minutes.
  • After 24 minutes, press and release the fresh food light switch 5 times in 6 seconds to bring the refrigerator into cooling mode.

4. Use hot water or a hair dryer

Normally the defrosting method takes 8 hours to defrost your refrigerator.

But if you want to speed up the process, you must defrost it forcefully.

You can use hot/boiled water to defrost the refrigerator first.

Fill a bowl with boiling water, place it into the refrigerator, and close the door.

The steam of the boiled water will melt the ice of the refrigerator.

Make sure you place a towel inside the refrigerator so that it can soak the water.

After some time, when the water becomes cold, open the refrigerator door and soak the remaining melted water using a towel.

And repeat the process if still needed.

Using a hair dryer also speeds up your defrosting process.

You need a hair dryer, which needs to be set on hot air mode.

Keep the refrigerator open and turn on the blow dryer to start the defrosting.

Turn the blow dryer around the refrigerator, which will help you melt all the ice.

Now soak the water using a towel.

Repeat the process until you do not melt all the ice.

5. Clean the refrigerator

You can use a damp cloth to clean surfaces inside the fridge that you cannot easily remove.

Make sure to clean all the surfaces on your refrigerator’s adjustable shelves.

If you have odor issues in your refrigerator, try wiping it down with baking soda or leaving a bowl of baking soda in the fridge overnight.

Many models of Frigidaire come with a smudge-proof stainless steel finish.

This will make your cleaning process simple.

You need white vinegar and some oil to clean the refrigerator.

Remove any caked-on grime by spraying the outside fridge with vinegar and wiping it down with paper towels.

To avoid streaking, make sure to follow the grain of the metal.

Buff with a soft cloth and a dab of olive oil or your preferred oil.

If your refrigerator doesn’t have this finish, you can use baking soda and water or a simple surface cleaner to clean it.

How should I replace the defrost heater on my Frigidaire refrigerator?

If the defrost heater is faulty and you need to replace it, follow these steps:

  • Unplug your Fridigaire refrigerator by disconnecting the power cord from the house’s power supply.
  • Now open the refrigerator door and take the auger assembly and the ice bins out. Also, take out all the food and other items.
  • Now, remove the shelves and drawers, and bins.
  • Now remove the rails of the refrigerator walls with a nut driver.
  • Take a screwdriver and unscrew the screws of the back panel. Once the screws are removed, you will find the heater.
  • Now unscrew the screws that attach to the evaporator coils using a nut driver.
  • Take a plier and remove the heat shields’ bottom under the coils. Bring it forward until you cannot move it anymore. Now take out the copper tubing located on top of the coils.
  • Once the coils are removed, take the pliers and drag the heat shield until immobile.
  • Now detach the wire harness located near the copper tubing.
  • Once done, you will find the insulation between the walls and the coils. Use a screwdriver to take it out. Push the foam pieces behind the defrost heater.
  • Now you can find clips that hold the old heater’s bottom. Remove the clips and separate the heater from the coils.
  • Once the old heater is removed, put the new heater at the evaporator’s coils’ bottom. Move it until you can twist the wire terminal at the right through the evaporator coil.
  • Secure the base with the clips. Secure its wire terminals to the ones that are above the coils.
  • Again, follow the steps you applied before to open the refrigerator to assemble it again. Now switch back the refrigerator and check if the heater is working properly.

How to replace the thermostat on a Frigidaire refrigerator?

If the thermostat is faulty, you must replace it.

Follow these steps to do so:

  • Turn the refrigerator off or unplug the cord of the refrigerator.
  • Now you need to locate the thermostat. The thermostat might be placed in different places for different models. You might find it at the bottom of the fridge or the back of the freezer section. It is usually connected to the heater through the wire. Remove the clips or screws that hold the back or bottom panel in place.
  • Once the screws or clips are removed, you will find the thermostat. Take a piler and disconnect the wires that hold the thermostat in its place.
  • Now remove the thermostat.
  • Now take a new thermostat and place it in the place of the old one.
  • Now connect the wires and put the clips or screws back.

Switch on the refrigerator and see if the thermostat is working again.

How do I replace the defrost timer of my Frigidaire refrigerator?

If the defrost timer of your refrigerator is faulty, follow these steps:

  • Unplug the refrigerator from the power supply of your house.
  • Remove the top shelf.
  • Now, unscrew the screws that carry the defrost timer assembly.
  • Detach the wire harness and remove the defrost timer assembly.

One of the most common reasons your whirlpool washer stops at the spin cycle is that the machine is off-balanced. Level the washing machine leg to fix this issue. Another common cause is overloading. You can fix this issue by loading the clothes as per the load capacity of your washer.

In this article, I will help you understand 6 common causes and steps to fix the Whirlpool washer that stops at the spin cycle. So, keep reading.

Why is my whirlpool washer stopping at a spin cycle? (+Fix)

Washing machines are a basic yet significant requirement of households.

Whirlpool is a sought-after brand that has reliable electrical products.

Whirlpool washing machines are energy-efficient and can bear many washing cycles in a day while cleaning the laundry effectively.

And you must know how to use it correctly to avoid issues with it.

If your Whirlpool washing machine is stopping at the spin cycle, it may be due to improper loading of clothes, or it may also occur due to a motor fault.

I have shared common causes and detailed steps to fix the issues.

Let’s thrive in fixing your whirlpool washing machine issues.

1. Overloading clothes

Every one of us wants to do more laundry in less time.

So, we tend to overload the drum during the washing cycle.

Have you done the same with your washing machine?

If that’s the case, it may be why your washing machine is not spinning.

Let’s understand what happens when you overload the washing machine.

There is an automatic sensor in the whirlpool washing machine.

It senses if the washer’s drum is overloaded, and it will stop the spinning if you overload it.

A washer machine cannot sense the overload unless the water is filled in the drum.

One of the important reasons why your washing machine stops the spinning cycle if you overload it is to prevent an off-balance in your washing machine.

When off-balance occurs, the interior parts of the washing machine will get damaged, and also it will cause hazards to the person operating the machine.

So, it is necessary to load the washing machine according to its holding capacity.

You can fix these issues by following the instructions below:

  • Press the cancel or stop button in your washing machine.
  • Unplug it from the mains.
  • Drain if there is excess water in the drum.
  • Check if you have overloaded the drum.
  • Remove excess clothes from the drum and close the lid to begin the new washing cycle.
  • Plug in the washing machine and check if the issue is solved by beginning the washing cycle.

2. Unbalanced washing machine

Another crucial cause of the washing machine not spinning is placing it on an unlevel surface and an imbalance in the washer’s leg.

If your washing is vibrating and making unusual noises before stopping at the spin cycle, it must be due to the unlevel floor.

Placing the washing machine on an unlevel surface will damage its internal parts and also affect the washing quality.

Here is how you can fix the issues:

  • Unplug the washing machine from the electric outlet.
  • Move it forward to check the condition of the floor. A washing machine will be heavy, so don’t risk moving it alone. Consider taking assistance from your housemates.
  • Tilt the washing machine backward to check the condition of the vibrational pads. Vibrational pads help to prevent shaking in the washing machine. In the long run, it may become loose. In such a case, you must replace it.
  • Check the condition of the floor where you have placed your washing machine.
  • If the floor is bumpy or cracked, you must repair it. Or you can relocate it to another place.
  • If your surface is slippery, it is dangerous to place the washing machine.
  • Check the legs of the washing machine. Sometimes, they may become unleveled, causing this issue.
  • Tilt the washing machine backward to access the legs at the bottom.
  • Adjust them using a wrench. Turn the leg clockwise to lift it upwards and anti-clock to pull it downwards.
  • Next, check the level of the floor using a bubble level. And also, check the level of the washing machine.

3. Broken lid switch

Whirlpool top-loading washing machines have a lid switch.

The lid switch plays an important role in keeping the door closed during the washing cycle.

Lid switches are designed to transfer the signal to the control panel if the door is not latched properly.

When the lid switch is broken, it won’t transfer the signal to the control panel, and your washing machine will recognize it as a door left open, resulting in the washing machine stopping during a spin cycle.

Even the washing machine will not get started.

To fix this issue, you must replace the lid switch.

Here is how you can replace a lid switch from the whirlpool washing machine:

  • Unplug the machine from the electric outlet to prevent elocution, or turn off the circuit breaker if your washer is hard-wired.
  • Turn off the hot and cold water supply valves and pull the washing machine forward to work comfortably.
  • Access the washing machine’s backside to unthread the screw securing the control panel.
  • After removing the screws, tilt the control panel backward.
  • As you tilt the control panel, you can see two screws securing the control panel, the top panel, and the back panel in place.
  • Unthread those two screws to remove the retainers from the place.
  • Detach the cabinet from the washing machine.
  • Open the top loading washing machine’s door, and you can see two screws on the right side of the washing machine. Unthread those two screws to release the lid switch.
  • Look underneath the washing machine, where you can see a screw folding the lid switch wire harness. Remove the screws to detach the wire harness from the retaining clips.
  • Detach the wire harness and the lid switch from the cabinet and replace them with the new one.
  • Replace the new wire harness into the slot and secure it with the retainer underneath the cabinet.
  • Reattach the cabinet to the washing machine, connect the lid switch to the top, and secure it with screws.
  • Make sure the back of the washing machine is secure with the washing machine.
  • Reinstall the retaining clips you removed earlier. Ensure you secure the top panel and the back with the retaining clip.
  • Now, reattach the control panel to the top and secure it with the locking tabs and two screws at the back of the washer.
  • Move the washer to its position and turn on the water supply valves.
  • Plug in the washer and begin the test washing cycle to check if the issue is solved.

4. A faulty motor

A drive motor in the washing machine helps to move the clothes and agitate inside the drum.

It also plays an important role in the rotation of the drum.

Another important function of the motor is to force the water drain out of the washing machine.

If the drive motor is burnt, it won’t function effectively to carry out the functions.

The washing machine won’t get the mechanical energy to rotate its drum during the spin cycle.

In such a case, you must replace the drive motor.

However, replacing the drive motor in the washing machine is challenging.

You must do it only when you have experienced doing electric appliance repairs.

If not, it is best to hire a professional to do the replacement.

Here is how you can replace the drive motor from the washing machine.

  • Unplug the washing machine from the electric outlet.
  • Move the washer forward with the help of an assistant.
  • Turn off the water supply valves and detach the drain hose from the standing pipe at the back side of the washing machine.
  • Disconnect the water supply and drain hoses from the washing machine.
  • With the help of the assistant, turn your washing machine to tilt on the side to access the bottom panel.
  • Access the bottom panel and unthread the screws to detach it from the washing machine.
  • You can see the drive components covered with plastic cover. Pull off the cover by removing the screws securing it, and place it aside.
  • Now, you can see a belt running around the motor.
  • Pull the belt out of the motor components and set it aside.
  • You can see a wire harness connected to the motor. Disconnect it from the motor.
  • Now, remove the screws that hold the motor to the basement of the whirlpool washing machine.
  • Pull the faulty motor out of place and discard it.
  • Purchase the new drive motor based on the model of your whirlpool washing machine.
  • Replace the new drive motor and secure it with the screws you removed earlier.
  • Place the belt on the drive pulley assembly.
  • Reconnect the wire harness to the motor and lock it tightly in the tab.
  • Reattach the top plastic cover and secure it with the screws.
  • Reattach the bottom panel and secure it with screws.
  • Bring back the washing machine to the upright position.
  • Turn on the water supply valve and move the washing machine to its original position.
  • Reconnect the drain hose and water supply pipes to the washing machine.
  • Plug in the washing machine and check if the issue is solved.

5. A faulty belt

The drive belt in the washing machine goes around the drive motor and drive pulley.

It helps to rotate the washing machine’s drum and keep the washing machine in a balanced state.

If the drive belt is worn out, the washing machine won’t rotate and will cause an off-balance during the spin cycle.

In such a case, you must replace the drive belt:

  • Unplug the washing machine from the mains to prevent electric hazards.
  • Turn off the water supply valves from the washing machine.
  • Disconnect the drain hose and water supply pipes from the washing machine.
  • Move the washing machine forward to work with comfort.
  • With the help of the assistant, tilt your Whirlpool washing machine to the front to access the bottom panel.
  • Now, you can access the bottom panel to replace the drive belt.
  • You can see a plastic cover securing the drive mechanism. Unthread the screws securing it to detach it from the washing machine.
  • Now, you can see a belt running around the drive pulley and motor.
  • Rotate the belt to remove it from the washing machine.
  • Purchase the new belt based on the model of your whirlpool washing machine.
  • Replace the new belt with the drive motor mechanism.
  • Reattach the plastic cover and secure it with the screws.
  • Reattach the back panel and tilt the washing machine to the upright position.
  • Move the washing machine to its original position. Turn on the water supply valves and reconnect the drain hose and water supply lines.
  • Plug in the washing machine and start the test washing cycle to check if the issue is solved.

6. Using excessive detergent

It is a common misconception among people to associate the usage of excessive detergent with effective cleaning.

But that’s not true.

Using excessive detergent will not make your clothes extra clean; instead, it will make the clothes come with studs.

It will also disturb the spinning cycle in the high-efficiency washing machine.

A high-efficiency washing machine has a sensor to detect the load level in the drum.

If there are too many suds in the washing machine due to excessive detergent, a washing machine sensor misunderstands it to the overfilling of the drum.

In such a case, a spinning cycle is stopped.

To fix this issue, you must remove the suds from the drum by letting the water flow into the drum.

You can avoid this issue by using the right amount of detergent, as mentioned on the label.

Is it worth repairing your whirlpool washer that won’t spin?

It depends on the cost of repair and the cost of the new washing machine.

If the repair cost exceeds 50% of the original price of the washing machine, it is better to buy a new one.

Because, however, it will get faulty again.

If you don’t have the budget to buy a new washing machine, you can repair the old one by following the steps mentioned in the article without hiring professionals.

Tips for maintaining your Whirlpool washing machine to prevent faults

A fault in the washing machine will disturb your routine and decrease your productivity.

So, it is important to maintain it well to avoid any faults and failings.

Here are some tips to prevent your washing machine from faults and failings:

  • Use good quality detergent. If you use a high-efficient washing machine, you must use a detergent manufactured with a high-efficient washing machine. Using cheap detergent will damage the washing machine and your clothes as they contain heavy alkaline substances.
  • If you use hard water to do laundry, it will cause salt accumulation in your washing machine. Not cleaning your washing machine will affect its efficiency. It is important to deep clean your washing machine using a cleaning solution to remove stubborn dirt.
  • Clean the detergent drawers regularly. Detach the detergent drawer, sock it in a cleaning solution, and use a brush to remove the excess dirt and debris in the detergent drawer.
  • Inspect the hoses and water supply lines at least once a month. Check if they are connected tightly to the pipes tight to avoid any spillage. It also happens that drain hoses get clogged due to dirt accumulation. Unclog the drain hose regularly to facilitate smooth water flow.
  • Clean the filter regularly. Filters collect all the dirt and foreign materials from the washing cycle. In the long run, dirt will block the filter completely. So, cleaning the filter with the brush and soaking it in the cleaning solution is important.

Final thoughts

Keeping the washing machine clean will prevent the majority of faults in it. Other important causes of the faults are overloading and using excess detergent.

The washing machine keeps working frequently. So, it is common to see faults in it. If your washing machine stops in the spin cycle, you must figure out the cause before fixing the issue. In this article, I have discussed six common causes and steps to fix the issues.

One of the common causes is overloading and uneven distribution of clothes in the drum. So, load the drum according to its capacity. Check if the clothes are unevenly distributed; if that’s the case, remove heavy clothes and distribute the clothes across the agitator.

However, other issues include a faulty drive motor, belt, and lid switch. In such a case, you must replace the faulty parts. Go through the article, figure out the cause and fix the issues by following the steps mentioned.

If you are not confident about replacing the faulty parts, you must seek professional help.

6 reasons your Samsung washer keeps stopping mid-cycle (+Fix)

Samsung is a reliable brand known for its quality products.

Samsung washing machines are one such appliance for efficient laundry cleaning.

No matter how trustworthy the brand is, you may have to confront issues and faults regarding electrical appliances.

I know how annoying it would feel to begin the washing cycle only to see it stop mid-cycle.

But you don’t have to worry about replacing the entire washing machine.

Sometimes the reason would be as simple as the overloading of clothes.

However, there would be other issues that you could solve by replacing the faulty parts.

You can fix the issues easily when you find out the cause.

That’s what I have shared in this article.

Here are the 6 common reasons and easy steps to fix the issues.

Let’s get started!

1. Faulty door lock and door switch

The door lock plays a significant role in a washing machine.

It helps to lock the door tight when the washing cycle begins.

If the door is not latched properly, the washing cycle won’t begin or will stop mid-cycle.

There are several reasons for the damage to the door lock.

One of the common reasons is shutting the door forcefully.

When the door is latched properly, the door switch transfers the electrical signals to the control panel.

Thus, the washing cycle starts.

If the door is not latched properly, your Samsung washing machine won’t start.

During the washing cycle, the drum will agitate fast; if the door is not latched well, water will flood, and clothes will come out of the drum.

The washer won’t start the washing cycle until the door is latched tight to prevent these mishaps.

If this is the case with your Samsung washing machine, you must replace it.

Follow the steps below to replace the door lock:

  • Unplug the washer from the electric outlet to prevent electric hazards.
  • Open the washer’s door and remove the door seal retainer using a flathead screwdriver.
  • Push the door seal to the inner side of the door opening.
  • You can find the door lock assembly on the right side. Unthread the screws securing the door lock assembly.
  • Access the door lock at the rear side of the door assembly, and you can pull it easily as you remove the screws.
  • You can see wire connections to the door lock assembly. Disconnect the wire connections to detach the door latch assembly.
  • Purchase the new door lock assembly based on the model number of your Samsung washing machine.
  • Replace the new door lock assembly and reconnect all the electrical wires and position them in their place.
  • Reattach the screws to secure the door lock assembly.
  • Reposition the door seal and secure the door seal with the door seal retainer.
  • Close the washer’s door and plug it into the electrical outlet.

Check if the issue is solved, or else try the fixes below.

2. Faulty water inlet valve

Water inlet valves are located on the back side of the washing machine.

They are responsible for water flow to the drum of the washer.

Water inlet valves have a part called solenoids, which facilitate water flow by opening and closing.

If your washing machine stops during the rinse cycle, it must be due to faulty water inlet valves.

Because during the rinse cycle, a washing cycle will pause for a moment for the water to flow from the inlet valves.

A washer will completely stop the cycle if there is no water flow.

Another possible problem in the water inlet valves is the accumulation of dirt and dust.

A clogged water inlet valve will also block the water flow.

Unclogging the water inlet valves would be best to facilitate the smooth water flow.

If you are still unsure if the water Inlet valves are faulty, check it with the multimeter.

Consider referring to the user manual to know the reading of your Samsung washing machine.

Follow the steps below to replace the faulty water inlet valves:

  • Unplug the washing machine from the electric outlet to avoid electric hazards.
  • As water inlet valves are located at the back of the Samsung washer, push the washer forward for the space to work.
  • Turn off the water supply to the washing machine.
  • Unthread the screws securing the top panel. Detach it and set it aside.
  • After removing the top panel, you can see two water inlet valves on the left side.
  • Unthread the screws securing the water inlet valves to detach them from the washer.
  • You can see many electrical wire connections with the water inlet valve, consider taking photos of the electrical connections for future reference, or you can choose to label the wires.
  • Disconnect the electrical wire connections from the water inlet valves.
  • Pull the water inlet valve from its position.
  • Remove the Jubilee clips from the two water inlet valves using a plier.
  • After removing the clips, you can pull off the hoses from the water inlet valve.
  • Purchase the new water inlet valve based on the model of your Samsung washing machine.
  • Reattach the hoses to the water inlet valve and secure them with the Jubilee clips.
  • Replace the new water inlet valve in the slot and reconnect all the electrical wires referring to the digital photo you took.
  • After making the electrical wire connections, secure it with the screws you removed.
  • Detach the top panel and secure it with screws.
  • Turn on the water supply. And move the washing machine to its original position.
  • Plug in the washer and begin the washing cycle to check if the issue is solved.

3. Main control board issues

The main control board carries important functions such as monitoring the sensors, controlling the speed of the drum, maintaining the proper temperature, and initiating the washing cycle by switching on the washer.

The control panel is the mini-computer that acts as the brain of the washing machine by transferring electrical signals.

It also transfers power to the drive motor, drain motor, and solenoids.

If the control panel is faulty, a washer will not function efficiently.

In such a case, you must replace the main control board.

Follow the steps below to replace the main control board:

  • Unplug the washer from the electric outlet to prevent electrical hazards.
  • Move the washer forward to access the back of the washer.
  • Unthread the screws from the back cover to detach the washing machine.
  • And now, you can see two screws securing the control panel.
  • Unthread those two screws to tilt the control panel to access the internal parts.
  • You can see the top cover covering the control board and other components.
  • Release the locking tabs to pull out the top cover.
  • After releasing the top cover, you can see the main control board having several electrical wire connections.
  • Consider taking digital photos before detaching the wires.
  • Now, detach all the wires and wire harness from the man control board.
  • Detach the main control board from the control panel by removing four screws securing it.
  • Purchase the new main control board based on the model of your Samsung washing machine.
  • Realign the new main control board in the slot and secure it with the locking tabs.
  • Reattach the screw to secure the main control panel.
  • Reconnect all the electrical wires and wire harnesses, referring to the photo you took earlier.
  • Reattach the top cover by securing it with the locking tabs.
  • Now, realign the control panel in place and secure it with two screws.
  • Reattach the back panel and secure it with screws.
  • Move the washer to the original position.
  • Plug in the washer and start the washing cycle. Check if the issue is solved.

4. Faulty timer

A timer in the washing machine helps to schedule the washing cycle at your desired time.

And also it controls the important systems in the washing machine.

Time is made of movable parts like springs and motors, so they may be worn out or damaged.

To check the working condition of times, you must check it with the multimeter.

You must replace the timer to fix the issue if it shows no continuity.

Follow the steps below to replace the timer:

  • Unplug the washer from the electric outlet.
  • Block the water supply to the washing machine by turning off the water supply valve.
  • Unthread the screws from the control panel and tilt them backward. Secure the control panel with the hinges to secure it from falling from the washing machine.
  • Access the knob of the timer and turn it around while observing the backside of the timer.
  • Pull the timer knob and secure it in a safe place.

  • Reattach the control panel and secure it with the screws you removed.
  • Move the washer to the original position and turn on the water supply valve.
  • Plug in the washing machine and check if the issue is solved.

5. Faulty hose pipes

Drain hoses help to expel water from the washing machine at the end of the washing cycle.

If the hose pipes are clogged due to the accumulation of dirt and debris, it delays water flow outside the washing machine.

You must unclog the drain hose pipe in such a case to fix the issue.

Follow the steps below to unclog the drain hose pipes:

  • Turn off the power supply to the washing machine.
  • Turn off the water supply valve to block the water flowing to the washing machine.
