Samsung Refrigerator Not Cooling But Freezer Works: Fix

Any refrigerator can have cooling issues, including Samsung fridges. But what is the problem behind the Samsung refrigerator not working and the freezer working fine? That is what we will talk about in this article.

A Samsung refrigerator might not cool because of a failed evaporator coil. Defrost the refrigerator to fix this. Another reason may be that the settings and modes need to be corrected. You will need to check the control settings and fix the mode so the refrigerator can cool.

There are multiple reasons behind a refrigerator not cooling down. This article will let you know the common reasons behind the issue and ways of troubleshooting the problem. So, let’s begin without further delay.

Why is my Samsung refrigerator not cooling but the freezer works?

There can be multiple reasons your Samsung refrigerator doesn’t cool, but the freezer does.

I know it feels weird, but when it happened with my mom’s fridge, I spent hours researching and handling the fridge.

Here are the common reasons why a Samsung refrigerator doesn’t cool even when the freezer works.

1. The evaporator coil frosted or burnt.

The evaporator coil of the fridge gets covered with frost, for which the fridge remains warm.

You will see ice build-up on the back wall where “Twin cooling” is mentioned, or your fridge makes noises that vanish after you open the door.

When these happen, it is sure that your fridge is undergoing condensation issues that gathered behind the panel and turned to ice.

Due to this blockage, the evaporator fan fails to spread and circulate the cold air inside the fridge.

As a result, the refrigerator doesn’t cool down.

The condition is also called the ‘failed to defrost cycle.’

Sometimes, changing the defrost temperature sensor can solve the problem for some time, but it brings the problem back.

The blockage can also occur due to standing water.

If the drain is blocked, the water will stand at the bottom.

This water will evaporate, condense on the top part of the Twin Cooling panel, and build ice on the evaporator fan.

The coil or motor burns due to short circuits during a power surge.

Sometimes, excessive ice build-up for prolonged periods will also do the same.

Turning the fan blades is difficult when the ice build-up is too much.

Over time, the motor will burn out if the condition persists.

How to fix it?

One simple way to solve it is to defrost the refrigerator.

Turn off the power and let the fridge defrost naturally.

To replace the evaporator coil or motor:

  • Turn off and disconnect the refrigerator from the main power supply to avoid short circuits or electrocution.
  • Remove all the drawers and shelves to access the evaporator fan and motor.
  • Remove the rear panel inside the fridge and reach out for the fan motor.
  • Disconnect and remove it from the fridge.
  • In the same place, install a new fan motor.
  • Now, replace the panel that you removed.

If the temperature board, defrost timer, and defrost heater are fine, there won’t be any frost accumulation.

If these appliances are defective, you might need to replace them.

In the coming points, we shall discuss how temperature boards, defrost timers, and heaters cause frosted evaporator coils.

2. The evaporator fan frosted over.

Both the evaporator coil and the fan can be frosted.

If the fridge is not cooling down, one common reason is the lack of proper air circulation.

If your evaporator fan is blocked by ice, it fails to spread the air around the fridge inside and prevents it from cooling down.

So, when the fridge is not cooling, check the fan to find out the real issue.

How to fix it?

If your fridge door is a french door, close the left door and put a magnet on the right side of your fridge to replicate the right door closing.

After some time, the evaporator fan should start working.

If it still doesn’t work, the fan blades might have been blocked by ice, or the fan is burnt.

The first solution is to defrost the Samsung refrigerator or help the ice melt.

After some time, your fan should be able to work.

If it doesn’t work, the problem might be a burnt motor or some foreign objects stuck in it.

You need to remove the objects or replace the burnt motor with a new one (already discussed in the previous point).

Foreign objects include cardboard pieces from food packets that might have broken off and stuck in the fan.

To remove the foreign objects:

  • Disconnect the fridge from the power supply to avoid accidents.
  • Remove the shelves, drawers, and covers to access the evaporator cover. Behind it will be the fan and coil.
  • Remove the rear panel from inside the compartment.
  • Find the fan and the foreign object that got stuck into it.
  • Slowly bring out the obstruction, and your evaporation fan should start working.

3. Defective damper control assembly

The air damper control will close and open to allow adequate cold air inside the refrigerator.

If the damper is not opening properly, it prevents the cold air from entering the refrigerator.

How to fix it?

Look at the damper control to check whether it is stuck close or broken.

The damper control is behind the refrigerator’s back panel, close to the fridge’s top.

If the damper is stuck close or broken, you need to replace it with a new one.

  • First, gather two screwdrivers – a Phillips-head screwdriver and a flat-head screwdriver to replace the damper control assembly.
  • Disconnect the fridge from the main power to avoid electrocution.
  • Open the food section doors and locate the insert grill on the damper cover.
  • Remove the wire harness plug by pushing the locking tab downwards.
  • Push the tabs away and depress them with your flat-head screwdriver to remove the control.
  • Unplug the black plugs and the green wire from the assembly and the motor.
  • Put the old wire harnesses to the new control and motor, and connect the green wire.
  • Install and replace the new control with the one until the tabs snap tightly, and then reconnect the wire assembly.
  • Put back the insulation and cover back in their positions.
  • Now, snap the grill back into place.

The damper and damper controls are the two important things in the refrigerator that keeps the food fresh and cool.

4. Weak or defective thermistor

The thermistor of the refrigerator controls the fridge’s temperature and sends the temperature reading to the control board.

Based on these temperature readings, the same control board regulates the power to the compressor and evaporator fan.

If the thermistor creates issues or is defective, the compressor and evaporator fan will not work when needed.

It will not be functioning regularly.

As a result, the refrigerator will not be able to cool down.

How to fix it?

To confirm if the problem is with the thermistor or not, check it with a multimeter.ย

If the thermistor is fine, the thermistor resistance will change simultaneously with the refrigerator’s temperature.

But, if the resistance does not show any changes, the thermistor is defective. It would be best to replace it.

Here are the steps to replace the thermistor:

  • First, disconnect the fridge.
  • Locate the thermistor, release the cover, and pull it out of the cover. The thermistor is under a small plastic cover attached to the back wall, side wall, or ceiling’s surface.
  • Pull the thermistor out of the clip and unplug the wire harness from it and remove the thermistor.
  • Attach the new thermistor to the mounting clip and the wire harness.
  • Reattach the cover and put back the shelves.
  • Plug in the plug of the refrigerator and turn on the main power.

5. A faulty temperature control board

The temperature control board of the refrigerator gives voltage to the fan motors and the compressors.

If the control board is at fault for some reason, it will stop providing voltage to the motors and the compressors.

If that happens, the refrigerator will not be able to cool down.

How to fix it?

One easy solution to the problem is simply replacing the temperature control board.

But before that, you need to confirm the issue because sometimes the control board gets misdiagnosed.

So, you need to test all the common defective issues related to the control board.

You can replace the board if you cannot troubleshoot any of them.

Replacing the defective control board can be very expensive.

So, you must hire a technician to replace the temperature control board.

Since it is one of the most misdiagnosed problems in Samsung fridges, you should confirm the problem and then take steps.

Once you find out that the real problem is in the control board, you need to replace the board under the guidance of a technician.

6. Defrost control board failure

This control board controls how often to run the defrost cycle to cool down the refrigerator.

If the defrost control board fails to function during the defrost cycle, the refrigerator will not be able to cool down when needed.

The frost will continue to accumulate in the evaporator coil.

If the coils get frosted, the air won’t be able to spread all around the fridge and cool it down.

How to fix it?

You need to replace the defrost control board with a new one.

The steps to install a new defrost control board can be very expensive and confusing.

Consult a technician if you need help understanding what is wrong with your refrigerator.

He will help you identify the problem and fix the defrost control board.

7. Main control board

The main control board can also be responsible for the refrigerator not cooling, but the freezer is still working.

Though the problem is rare, you should not ignore it.

If the main control board is not working properly due to some defects, the refrigerator will not be able to cool down.

However, the freezer may work fine.

How to fix it?

The only way to fix the problem is to replace the control board.

But before you do it, consider checking other problems too.

If none of the other reasons sit with the fridge not cooling, check for the control board and replace it if required.

Below are the steps for replacement:

  • Disconnect the refrigerator.
  • The main control board is at the back of the refrigerator, on the left side panel.
  • Unscrew the four screws using a screwdriver and remove the cover.
  • Before removing any wires, take a photo to put the wires back in the correct places after your work is done.
  • Pull all the electrical connectors and keep them aside.
  • Press the retaining tab and take out the control board.
  • Place the new board and ensure that the pin from the refrigerator fits with the hole in the new control board.
  • Insert the board in the control board slot and push the locking tab and press the board to lock it in place.
  • Connect the electrical connectors back. Consult the photo you have taken in the beginning.
  • Put the cover panel back and screw them tightly.

Since the steps can be confusing, especially for naive people, you may consult a technician to do the job.

8. Defrost thermostat not working

The defrost thermostat controls the temperature of the evaporator coil.

When the temperature of the evaporator coil drops very low, the thermostat contacts will shut to let the power flow to the defrost heater during the defrost cycle.

In the defrost cycle, the heater will melt the accumulated frost from the evaporator coil.

It further allows proper air circulation inside the refrigerator.

But, if the defrost thermostat is defective, the thermostat contacts will not close.

Due to this, the thermostat prevents the power from reaching the defrost heater.

Ultimately, the refrigerator fails to cool down and stays warm.

How to fix it?

To confirm the issue, use a multimeter to test the continuity.

‘The defrost thermostat is defective if it does not show continuity or frequency when the temperature reaches low.

To fix the problem, you need to replace the thermostat.

You will find it inside the fridge, behind the back wall of the fridge.

To replace the thermostat:

  • Disconnect your refrigerator.
  • Remove all the drawers, shelves, and drawer covers.
  • Pull the back panel with a flat-head screwdriver and a Phillips screwdriver.
  • While you drag the back panel, be careful, as there are two wiring harnesses on the top left of the panel. Carefully open the panel and disconnect those wires by pressing the locking tabs.
  • Using a small flat-head screwdriver, bring the thermostat out of the evaporator and pull it out.
  • Once you have freed the thermostat, remove the junction box by pressing the tab.
  • Install the new thermostat and put the panel, wire harnesses, covers, and drawers back in place.

The process is quite tricky and expensive.

If you need clarification, you should hire a technician to do the job.

9. Defrost timer is not working

The defrost timer switches on the defrost heater from time to time to melt the accumulated frost from the evaporator coil.

Suppose the timer stops working due to some defect or malfunction.

In that case, it will not advance the defrost cycle and stop sending power to the defrost heater.

If that happens, the frost will accumulate in the evaporator coil, block the air circulation, and not allow the refrigerator to cool down.

How to fix the problem?

To ensure the defrost timer is fine, advance the dial to the defrost cycle.

The compressor will turn off, and the heater will turn on.

When the timer fails to advance the defrost cycle or provide power to the defrost components within 30 minutes, it indicates that the timer is at fault.

Replace the timer.

Sometimes, the timer doesn’t require replacing.

Check its continuity by turning the advance screw and turning it clockwise until you hear a tick.

Plug your fridge back and monitor the timer to determine whether it is working.

If not, you must replace it.

To replace the timer:

  • Disconnect the fridge from the main power.
  • Remove the timer from the back wall of the Samsung refrigerator.
  • Remove the screws protecting the timer. Unplug the wires in a harness. Remember which wire is connected to which terminal.
  • Remove the old timer and connect a new one with the wires. You can either put the harness back or attach the individual wires.
  • Once you install the new timer, replace the protective panels too.
  • Now, plug in your refrigerator and listen to check whether the timer is working or not.

10. Defective or weak defrost heater

A defective or weak defrost heater is also responsible for frost accumulation in the evaporator coil.

The heater allows cold air to flow all around the fridge inside to cool down.

The blockage prevents the cold air from flowing freely inside the fridge.

As a result, the refrigerator does not cool down and remains warm for prolonged periods.

Solution

Check the heater and replace it if it is defective.

Follow the following steps to replace a Samsung defrost heater:

  • Unplug your fridge from the main power line.
  • Remove the shelves, drawers, and cover to get access to the evaporator cover and remove it by locating the lock tabs and unlocking them.
  • Unplug the retaining clip plugs and remove the electrical plugs on both sides.
  • Remove the wire retainer on the right side, and the bimetal defrost thermostat from the left side.
  • Locate the defrost heater tabs with the help of a screwdriver and release them. Also, bend the bottom tabs with pliers and remove them.
  • Now, hold the defrost heater and remove it. Make sure you don’t touch the evaporator coil.
  • Now, carefully replace a new defrost heater and put all the wires, plugs, and covers back properly.

The process can be very expensive and dangerous.

So, if you are hesitating, consult a technician to do the job.

While buying a new one, buy the one with the correct part numbers.

Multiple defrost heaters with incorrect part numbers do not include the heater drain probe or the retaining clip.

You need to transfer them from the old one.

11. Incorrect modes and settings

Samsung refrigerators have pre-programmed settings and modes, like cooling off, vacations, etc.

The cooling-off feature is for demo or shop mode.

When you switch it on, the refrigerator will have power, and the light will be on, but the fridge won’t cool down.

The error codes are:

  • OF OF
  • O FF
  • OFF OFF

Some fridges also have a vacation mode, when the freezer is fine but the fridge doesn’t cool down.

The refrigerator keeps the temperature under 62.6ยฐF.

So, if the temperature is around 59ยฐF, it won’t cool down.

The temperature setting also matters.

So, you must check if the refrigerator’s cooling system remains appropriate.

How to fix it?

Let’s talk about some control settings so that you can fix the problems related to settings and modes:

  • Samsung refrigerators with controls displaying inside the fridge: Press the Fridge and Flex buttons and hold them for 5-8 seconds until the display flashes.
  • Refrigerators with frost display panel: Press and hold the first two left buttons and the one at the right top side of the panel for 5-8 seconds.
  • Samsung family hub refrigerators: Go to Fridge manager, tap settings, and select the Cooling-off option. Choose Deactivate and press the Proceed button to confirm.

If your fridge is on vacation mode, try to press and hold the vacation-mode feature for 3 seconds to deactivate the mode.

You can also change the temperature or cooling setting, and the fridge will disable the vacation mode.

12. Malfunctioning of reed switches

Besides the thermostat, thermistor, temperature sensors, and other sensors, the Samsung refrigerator also has more sensors, called reed switches.

The switches are generally inside the refrigerator’s main body, where the door frame closes.

But, if you have a french door or side-by-side fridge, it will have two reed switches.

The door magnets will activate the reed switches, or the fridge will not cool down.

How to fix the problem?

If the reed switches are not working, you need to get a new set of reed switches for your Samsung refrigerator.

Here are steps to replace them:

  • Get the cover above your fridge’s door.
  • Remove the screws and take the panel off the fridge.
  • Unplug and disconnect the wire harnesses.
  • Now, flip the panel to get the reed switches.
  • Remove the reed switches from the retainers.
  • Install the new reed switches and connect the wires back in place.
  • Cover back the hinge cover panel on the refrigerator.

13. Low or leaking refrigerant

A low refrigerant can stop your refrigerator from cooling.

Your refrigerator should only have low refrigerants if the coolant is not having any leakage.

The problem is not only serious but also hazardous.

You need to call Samsung support or a licensed technician to fix the problem in such a condition.

Only try to refill the refrigerant with training or protection.

Refilling can be dangerous if there is a leakage in the evaporator coils, condenser, or compressor.

Hire a technician to fix the problem.

Final thoughts

There are so many reasons behind refrigerators not cooling down. However, in the above situations, the fridge may not cool down, but the freezer still works fine.

Since there are so many problems, you must check and confirm the issue before taking any steps.

A simple solution to the maximum problems is replacing a defective part of the fridge, for example, the control board, thermostats, etc. Sometimes, the problem gets misdiagnosed. So, confirm it before you opt to change it.

If you cannot understand and solve the problem, call an expert technician to do the needful.

Frigidaire Refrigerator Not Cooling But Freezer Works: 5 Quick Fix

Many people report that their Frigidaire refrigerator is not cooling while the freezer works fine! If you are facing this problem, you are in the right place.

Your Frigidaire refrigerator might not be cooling due to the faulty evaporator coil. Blow the hot air to defrost the ice or replace the coil if it is completely damaged. Cooling problems may also happen due to the malfunctioning defrost timer. In such a case, you must replace the timer.

This article will help you to figure out the root cause behind your Frigidaire refrigerator not cooling even when the freezer works. You will also learn the step-by-step process to fix the issue by yourself without spending the dollars on professionals.

Why is my Frigidaire refrigerator not cooling but the freezer works?

Last year on Halloween, when guests were in my home, I encountered a warm refrigerator that didn’t let me serve chilled drinks and desserts.

I felt terrible, so I know how bad you feel when your refrigerator doesn’t cool.

I researched and found some common causes behind this.

Although I don’t use a Frigidaire refrigerator, I learned about this brand while researching. Also, the problem of not cooling is almost similar to other brands. So, Let’s have a look.

Here are the 5 common causes why a Frigidaire refrigerator does not cool even though the freezer is working fine.

1. Frozen evaporator coils

Evaporator coils are there to make the interior of the refrigerator cool.

When the refrigerant gas enters the evaporator coils, the compressor creates air pressure to pull the refrigerant gas forward to the opposite of the coils.

While this refrigerant gas is distributed, it absorbs the heat surrounded by the evaporator coils and the food compartment inside the refrigerator.

After absorbing all the heat, this refrigerant gas is pushed back into the refrigeration cycle.

When the evaporator coils are damaged or filled with frost, they won’t pass the refrigerant gas to make it cold.

Here is a quick fix to defrost the ice surrounding the evaporator coil:

  • You can defrost the ice by blowing the hot steamy air from the hair dryer.
  • After defrosting the ice, let your refrigerator run and see if the ice frost is still forming.
  • It will form again if the defrost heater assembly is at fault.

Here is how you can replace a faulty defrost heat assembly:

  • Start by disconnecting the electric supply by unplugging the electric socket from the outlet.
  • Detach the trays from the freezer.
  • Pull out the shelf supports that you can find in the interior wall of the freezer compartments by removing the screws securing them.
  • Now, disconnect the back panel of the freezer by removing the screws securing them.
  • Disconnect the wires attached to the defrost heater.
  • Locate the hangers at the base of the evaporator coils. If you find plastic insulation from the evaporator coil, detach them.
  • You can now access the defrost heater, and pull it with pressure to detach it from the refrigerator.
  • Prepare the new defrost heater, and attach it with the evaporator coil assembly.
  • Attach the defrost heater by connecting the mounting clips at the base of the evaporator coil.
  • Reconnect the wire you disconnected initially while removing the faulty defrost heater.
  • Now reattach the back panel by securing it with the screws you removed.
  • Attach back the trays you removed. Plug in the refrigerator.

2. Damaged defrost timer

Defrost timer plays an important role in monitoring the frost formation in the refrigerator.

It will automatically turn on when the excess frost builds up in the evaporator coil.

Refrigerators use the timer to keep the frost formation in control.

If the defrost timer in the refrigerator is at fault, you may face the problem of the frigidaire refrigerator not cooling.

To fix this issue, you must replace the defrost timer.

  • Start by disconnecting the electricity from the refrigerator.
  • Disconnect the top shelf by removing the screws that are securing it with the body of the refrigerator.
  • Access the assembly to which the defrost timer is attached.
  • Using the screwdriver remove the screws attaching the assembly to the ceiling of the refrigerator.
  • Disconnect the wire harness attached to the assembly.
  • Keep the assembly in a comfortable place to detach the faulty defrost timer.
  • Remove the screws holding the timer with the assembly. Disconnect the wire harness to detach the timer and keep it aside.
  • Prepare the new defrost timer to attach to the assembly.
  • Attach the new defrost timer with the assembly by securing it with the screws.
  • Reconnect the wire harness with the assembly.
  • Fix back the assembly into place by securing it with the screws.
  • Reconnect the wire harness and attach the top shelf back.
  • Plug in the refrigerator. Let it run for a few hours and check if the issue is solved.

3. Malfunctioning evaporator fan

An evaporator fan plays a significant role in pushing the cold air throughout the evaporator coil.

After passing through the evaporator coil, it is distributed throughout the refrigerator.

If the evaporator fan is in faulty condition, it won’t distribute the cold air everywhere in the refrigerator, making it warm.

An evaporator fan may not work because of the faulty motor.

If the fan is completely damaged, you have to replace it.

Follow this step-by-step process to replace the evaporator fan.

  • Disconnect the refrigerator from the electricity by unplugging it from the electric outlet.
  • Access the freezer. Transfer it to the temporary insulating coolant if it is filled with the content.
  • Remove the baskets and shelves from the refrigerator.
  • Keep the screwdriver handy to disconnect the rear wall from the freezer by removing the screws securing it.
  • After removing the rear freezer wall, you can access the evaporator fan and the shroud.
  • Access the wires connected to the evaporator motor. Disconnect the wires attaching the evaporator fan with the motor.
  • Pull the fan blades with your hands and remove them from the shaft.
  • Rotate the shroud to attach the new evaporator fan to the shaft.
  • Reconnect the wires to the new evaporator fan. Attach the new evaporator fan to the motor.
  • Reposition the entire assembly into the freezer housing.
  • Reattach the rear wall to the freezer by securing it with the screws.
  • Once done, attach back the baskets and shelves to the freezer.
  • Plug in the refrigerator and let it run for a few hours. Check if your refrigerator is cooling back.

4. A faulty damper control assembly

A damper control assembly transfers the cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator by opening and closing the control doors attached to the assembly.

It determines the amount of cold air that passes to the refrigerator.

Sometimes, it may be struck in the closing position, not allowing the air to pass through the refrigerator.

You can inspect it manually.

Decrease the temperature of the thermistor and turn off the light switch inside the refrigerator to let it know that the door is closed.

While inspecting it, you must feel the cold air coming out of the control doors.

If not, the damper control assembly is at fault for causing the refrigerator to be warm.

In such a case, you need to replace the damper control assembly.

Here is how you can replace the damper control assembly from your frigidaire refrigerator:

  • Start by unplugging the refrigerator from the electric outlet.
  • Remove the top shelf from the refrigerator to access the damper assembly.
  • Use a screwdriver to remove 5 screws securing the top shelf to the refrigerator.
  • Remove the light bulb from the convenient unscrewing.
  • Pull out the top shelf control box to access the wire connections.
  • Start by disconnecting the locking tabs and the yellow wire.
  • After disconnecting the wires, pull out the temperature sensor from the slot. Now you can completely detach the control assembly from the refrigerator.
  • You can now access the damper at the end corner of the control assembly.
  • Remove the damper from the control assembly by disconnecting the electric plug and the ground connections.
  • Now remove the control door from the control assembly.
  • Prepare the new damper assembly for the control assembly.
  • Position the new damper assembly into place.
  • Connect the electric plug and the ground connection.
  • Now reattach the control box to the refrigerator by positioning the temperature sensor in its slot.
  • Reconnect the locking tabs and the yellow wires. Reattach the control assembly back to the refrigerator.
  • Secure it with the 5 screws you removed.
  • Plug in the refrigerator and let it run for a few hours. Check if the issue is solved.

5. A damaged thermistor

Thermistors regulate the temperature inside the refrigerator by transferring the electric signals to the temperature control board.

A temperature control board will transfer the power to the evaporator fan and the compressor as per the reading in the thermistor.

If the thermistor is faulty, showing an inappropriate reading, the evaporator fan and the compressor won’t function.

Thus causing a refrigerator to be warm.

In such a case, you need to replace the thermistor.

Follow this step-by-step process to replace the faulty thermistor with the new one:

  • As usual, start by unplugging the Frigidaire refrigerator from the electric outlet.
  • You can locate the thermistor at the side wall, the ceiling of the refrigerator, or the back wall based on the model of your Frigidaire refrigerator.
  • As a next step, use a screwdriver to remove the thermistor cover.
  • After removing the cover, pull the thermistor out of the cover.
  • Disconnect the thermistor and the wire harness attached to the thermistor.
  • Prepare the new thermistors to attach to the thermistor cover.
  • Fix it in the thermistor cover by reattaching the mounting clips & the wire harness.
  • Now attach the thermistor cover back to the refrigerator.
  • Connect the refrigerator with the electric supply. Check if the issue is solved after running the refrigerator for a few minutes.

What to do if a new Frigidaire refrigerator is not cooling?

When your refrigerator is new and not cooling, this may be due to the below-mentioned reason.

1. You may not have plugged the refrigerator properly.

Check if you have plugged the refrigerator in the electric out that is not faulty.

Check the power supply of the electric outlet, and ensure it transfers enough voltage that a refrigerator needs.

2. Thermostat temperature

You might have yet to check the thermostat’s temperature when you have just installed the refrigerator.

Ensure the thermostat’s temperature setting is at the right temperature to cool the refrigerator.

3. Check if the door is closing properly

The door which doesn’t close properly will prevent the refrigerator from getting cold.

Check if any content inside is preventing the door from closing properly.

Also, check if the gasket is firm enough to seal the door with the refrigerator.

4. Overstuffing the refrigerator

Immediately after installing the refrigerator, keep it neat with boxes and tin, which would block the air distribution throughout the refrigerator.

Ensure to organize the content inside the refrigerator to give air enough space to circulate throughout it to make the refrigerator cool.

How to reset a Frigidaire refrigerator?

A Frigidaire refrigerator doesn’t have a reset button, but you can still reset it by following the below-mentioned methods.

Unplug the refrigerator

When your frigidaire refrigerator is not cooling, but you want to reset it while it does not have a reset button, you can do it by unplugging the refrigerator.

Leave it unplugged for 5 to 10 minutes.

Now, plug it back into the electric outlet.

This is one method to reset the frigidaire refrigerator.

When you plug it back, you will notice the sound from the refrigerator, which is completely normal.

Rotate the defrost timer anti-clockwise

Defrost timer regulates the ice formation in the freezer.

It is automatically turned on when excess ice is formed from melting them.

You can locate the defrost timer on the back side of the control panel.

Access the defrost timer, and use a screwdriver to place it inside the notch.

Turn it anti-clockwise.

It is the second method of resetting your Frigidaire refrigerator.

  • After filling it with gas or fuel according to your generator, verify its efficiency by turning it on. Check if the generator is running properly.
  • Before connecting the washing machine to your generator, ensure that any other heavy-duty appliances are not connected.
  • Connect the power code of the generator to the male end of an extension cord. Take the other end to the washing machine connecting the female end of an extension to the machine.
  • Switch on the washing machine, and wait until the motor starts.
  • Disconnect all the appliances from the generator while you are trying to power up the motor.

What size generator do I need to run my washing machine?

The generator size you need to install is based on the washing machine’s wattage requirement and depends on the wattage requirement of the other appliance you plan to connect with the generator.

If you decide to install the generator only to power the washing machine, calculate the wattage requirement of the washing machine.

You can calculate your washing machine’s wattage by multiplying its voltage and amperes.

Wattage = Voltage multiplied by amperage.

Let’s assume the wattage requirement of your washing machine is 1500 watts.

Then, you need a generator with around 2000 wattage.

You must understand certain factors while choosing the generator’s size.

Starting wattage

Starting wattage refers to the power surge when the washing machine starts.

The wattage requirement when the appliance starts is four times higher than the wattage required while it is in the running stage.

A heavy-duty appliance like a washing machine, dryer, and heater needs to consume higher wattage when it starts.

If you connect many appliances with a generator, it must be capable of handling all the power surge that occurs while the heavy-duty appliances are starting.

Running wattage

Running wattage refers to the appliance’s power consumption when running.

A running wattage is also called the rated wattage in technical terms.

You can determine the running wattage of your device by looking at its label, or you can refer to the manual.

You have to consider the running wattage of your washing machine while calculating the wattage requirement a generator needs to handle.

Surge wattage

The maximum amount of wattage a generator can handle is called surge wattage.

It would help not to connect appliances that consume more than this surge wattage.

In such a case, you can add an extra 1000 to 1500 wattage to a generator to make it capable of handling the initial power consumption from the washing machine and all other appliances.

Is it safe to use a washing machine with a generator?

You can run a washing machine with a generator, and it is safe if you install a generator that matches the wattage requirement of your washing machine.

Using a stabilizer along with it will ensure protection from hazards.

As a washing machine is a heavy-duty appliance, it is vital to use a high-end generator with sine technology.

Here are some of the safety measures you have to take before running a washing machine with a generator:

Power supply

A washing machine uses power equal to the AC, so you have to install a generator that is enough to run the AC.

Sine wave supply

Nowadays, washing machines use advanced technology, which requires a stable power supply.

If you are using old-model washing machines without advanced technology, your machine won’t need this sine wave supply.

But, if you use the latest technology washing machine, you must install a generator with a sine wave supply.

Compared to old generators, new sine wave supply generators can provide a constant power supply and protect your washing machine from damage.

Wattage

Unlike other appliances, the wattage requirement of the washing machine doesn’t remain the same throughout the cycle.

The start and spin cycles require more wattage than the rinse cycles.

In this case, you should install a generator capable of withstanding the surge power requirement of the washing machine.

An appliance like a refrigerator requires more wattage when it starts, and the wattage requirement will become constant as it starts running, referred to as the running wattage.

But washing machines don’t have the constant requirement of wattage that varies according to the cycle.

You have to consider all these three safety precautions before installing a generator.

All three factors are crucial for preventing the appliances and you from hazards.

Can a 3500-watt generator run a washing machine?

As I mentioned earlier, you must calculate the wattage requirements of your washing machine to know precisely how much wattage of the generator would suit your appliance.

Generally, a 3500-wattage generator will be great to run your washing machine.

If your washing machine can run with 2000 wattage, you can run other low-energy consumption applications with this 3500-wattage generator.

Tips for using a Washing Machine with a generator

While connecting your washing machine with a generator, ensure you follow these tips, which I found useful.

Switch on the eco-cycle option

Eco-cycle option is the beneficial feature that comes with the new washing machines.

This feature lets the washing machines use less wattage and reduces the water consumption of the washing machine.

Ensure to switch on the eco-cycle option before connecting it to the generator.

Cut down the hot water supply.

In the case of the old machines, disconnect the hot water lines supplying hot water to the washing machines.

In contrast with the new machines, connect only the cold water pipelines.

The washing machine consumes less wattage when connected to the generator.

Inspect your drains

When your washer drain is clogged, it will take extra time to expel and supply the water.

In such a case, it will have longer cycles and will require extra wattage overloading a generator.

Fix if your drains are damaged before connecting them to the generator.

Don’t overload the washing machine.

When running a washing machine with a generator, avoid overloading the machine, resulting in longer cycles.

It will let the washing machine consume more power and wattage.

Can the washing machine run on an inverter?

You can run your washing machine with the inverter but make sure the inverter you install should handle the wattage requirement of your washing machine.

You should consider that the inverter must have 30% extra wattage than the washing machine’s running wattage to withstand the watts requirement during the surge power.

Let’s assume that you have a small washing machine that requires 650 wattages.

Then you must purchase the inverter with 800 to 1200 watts.

Inverters power up washing machines during the power outage with the help of batteries.

Like the factors needed to consider while installing the generator, you must consider the following factors when installing the inverter.

The two important factors are wattage and a load of appliances you plan to connect with the inverter.

Make sure the inverter meets the wattage requirement of your washing machine.

For example, if the wattage requirement of your washing machine is 1000 watts, then you need to install an inverter of 1500 watts, as discussed earlier.

Worry not if you are confused about using inverter washing machines with the inverter during a power outage.

You can also use the inverter washer with the inverter.

Checklist of safety precautions while using a generator with the washing machine

Generators are essential appliances that you should handle safely.

Here are some safety precautions you must ensure while using it.

  • Keep your generators in a ventilated area. When you install the generators in closed areas like the basement, carbon monoxide glasses fill up the area and start spreading across.
  • Keep your generators 10 feet away from your home, and point the exhaust pipe towards the non-residential area.
  • If your generator is portable, keep them secured with hold when not in use. Because sometimes it might move automatically, resulting in an accident. Avoid installing these on bumpy surfaces to prevent them from accidental slips.
  • Secure the power cord of the generator. Sometimes people slip off the power cord, damaging the power outlet. To avoid this, you can attach a warning label to alert people about the generator path.
  • Safe your generator from moisture. It will damage your appliance. Avoid installing your generator near stagnant water, leading to an electric shock hazard.
  • If the water creeps into the generator, it will put your generator in a faulty condition.
  • Don’t make the mistake of overloading your generator with many appliances. If you overload the generator, it will heat the generator. It will result in short circuits, damaged diodes, and blown fuses.
  • If you attach your generator directly to the mains, it will lead to damage and electricity hazards.
  • Instead of attaching the generator directly to the mains, connect the transfer switch. It would be best if you considered seeking the help of a professional while connecting the transfer switch.
  • Inspect the electric cord of your generator regularly. If you see any damages consider replacing it with a new one. Use a quality power cord instead of a poor-quality cable. As far as I heard, OEM-manufactured cables are performing well.
  • Install the proper grounding connection for your generator.
  • Install ground fault circuit interrupters to prevent electric shock.
  • Sometimes your generator will heat up. During those times, don’t fill the fuel in the tank. If the fuel spills accidentally, it will lead to a fire.
  • Keep the extra fuel far away from the generator.
  • Be cautious not to keep flammable objects near the generator as it will lead to hazards.

Final thoughts

While running the washing machine with a generator, ensure that it can handle the power surge of the washer.

Before connecting the generator with a washing machine, consider referring to the three important factors you need to take care of, as I mentioned in the article.

Never attempt to overload your generator beyond its capacity. It will lead to an electric shortage, causing hazards.

Follow the safety precautions I listed in the article to safeguard yourself from facing unexpected issues.

Can You Run A Microwave With A Generator?

If you use the microwave oven frequently, running it with a generator might have come to your mind. You are not alone if you are unsure about running the microwave oven with a generator. This article is the best place to know the answer.

In case of a power outage, you can run a microwave oven with the generator after ensuring it meets the wattage requirement. If the wattage requirement of your microwave oven is 1000 watts, then you must connect the generator to 1500 watts to ensure safety.ย

In this article, you will know how to calculate the wattage requirement of your microwave oven to install the generator with the specific requirement. You will also know the steps required to connect the microwave and the generator. So, keep reading.

Can you plug the microwave oven into the generator?

If you are using the microwave frequently and the power outage doesn’t want to stop you from using the microwave, you can safely plug the microwave into a generator.

There is nothing dangerous about connecting the microwave to a generator until you follow the safety precautions.

It is best to use gas-powered generators to run the microwave.

Before plugging the microwave with a generator, calculate the wattage required by your microwave.

Install a generator with an excellent wattage capacity to power the microwave during electricity shut off.

It would be best to use the cord extension to connect the microwave to the generator.

How to run the microwave with the generator?

Connecting the microwave to the generator may seem tedious if you are not a technical person.

I experienced the same when I first installed my generator to connect it to a microwave.

After that test and trial, I became familiar with those technical processes, and why not share the same with you?

Follow the steps I mentioned below to connect your microwave to the generator.

Microwave wattage

As the first step, you must precisely know the wattage requirement of your microwave.

After calculating the wattage requirement, you must install the generator not less than the wattage requirement of the microwave and not so higher than the requirement.

Because both can burn the wire or circuit, damaging the microwave or the generator.

You can see the microwave label to gather information on voltage and amperage requirements to calculate the wattage requirement.

A generator you install must have a 120 volts and 20 amp ground outlet.

Install the generator little larger than the wattage requirement of the microwave.

It doesn’t mean installing an extra larger one.

Choose the right outlet

It is impossible to connect the microwave to a generator directly because sometimes generators won’t come with the right outlet.

In such a case, you can use an extension cord to connect the microwave to the generator.

While buying an extension code to connect with a generator outdoors, get extensions designed especially to be moisture resistant.

Connect the extension cord

Before connecting the cables, ensure the generator is not positioned on an uneven surface.

Keep the generator 12 feet away from the microwave.

You must choose an extension cord with 14 gauge to connect the microwave to the generator.

Ensure that the extension cord is not of poor quality because thin wires of a poor quality extension cord will get burned, damaging both the generator and the microwave.

It is always best to use a short electric cord with thick wire capable of handling high voltage currents.

The generator outlet must be connected to the male end of the high-duty extension code of 12 gauge.

And you can connect the female end of an extension cord to the microwave power cord.

Operate the microwave

After connecting the electric cords and switching on the generator, your microwave will work seamlessly.

People commonly face the issue of microwaves not working when connected to the generator.

If you also face the same issue, you can hire a professional to determine what went wrong.

Disconnect the cables

After operating the microwave oven with the generator, don’t forget to unplug all the connections you made, as it is not advisable to keep them plugged in.

Disconnect the microwave from the female end of the extension cord.

Then switch off the generator and unplug the male end of an extension cord connected to the generator.

Now all the cables are disconnected, ensuring safe practice.

What size of a generator can I use to connect to the microwave?

Installing the right generator to handle the power consumption of the microwave oven is an important part you should be careful about.

To know the size of the generator, you should calculate the wattage required by your microwave.

Calculating the wattage of your microwave is very simple.

All you have to do is to check the user handbook, or you can check the UL label on your microwave to know the voltage and amperage of your device.

With the voltage and the amperage required, calculate the wattage requirement of your microwave.

Multiply your microwave’s voltage and amperage requirement, resulting in the wattage required to power it up.

Wattage=volts amperage

Let’s assume that you have a microwave of 1500 watts with 13 amp and 120 volts requirement, and then you need a generator capable of supplying 1700 watts for a safe operation.

Microwaves convert electrical energy into thermal energy and cook efficiently for less time.

So a generator must be capable of withstanding a highly efficient power requirement.

What are the common issues faced while running the microwave into the generator?

While running a microwave with a generator, I faced some issues.

I want to make you aware of the problems so you can be prepared to deal with them.

Wattage

A wattage issue is common when you run a microwave with a generator.

The generator must have an extra watt than the wattage required by the microwave oven.

Sometimes, when you overload the other appliance with the microwave oven, it will affect the generator and the appliances.

If the generator wattage is higher than the microwave, there will be a hazardous effect likely when the generator wattage is lower than the microwave.

So you need to calculate the wattage requirement of your device precisely.

Energy consumption

Running a microwave into the generator is costly because it consumes high power from the generator.

If you have a fuel consumption generator, it will empty fuel soon, so you have to refill the generator again.

Complex connections

As we discussed earlier, you must use an electric code extension to run the microwave oven into the generator.

Sometimes an extension cord may fail and result in the burning of the extension wire.

So it is important to purchase good quality extension cords with the capacity to bear higher wattage.

And while connecting the generator power cord and the microwave oven power cord with an extension cord, you must make sure you are connecting the male end of the extension cord with the generator and the female end with the microwave oven.

Can you run a microwave on a 1000-watt generator?

As I mentioned earlier, installing a generator with higher power wattage is more important than a microwave oven.

Only a microwave oven with the lower wattage requirement of 650 wattages will run with a 1000 watts generator, and the microwave oven will use all the power.

An average microwave oven requires 1000 wattage to power up.

In this case, running a microwave oven into a generator of 1000 wattage would be dangerous.

Consider installing a generator of higher wattage to avoid any hazards.

Will a 2000w generator run a microwave?

A 2000-wattage generator will be enough to run an average microwave oven which requires 1000 to 1500 wattage.

It will be safe to run a microwave oven with a 2000w generator instead of a 1000w generator.

Will the inverter generator run a microwave?

An inverter generator will run the microwave oven if the wattage requirement and the generator align.

Like a generator, you have to calculate the wattage requirement of the microwave oven to determine which inverter will fit your device.

Check the handbook manual or the product’s website to know the wattage requirement of your oven.

If you have an old microwave oven and lost the user manual, you couldn’t even find the information online.

You can try the method given below.

It is an effective method to determine the wattage requirement of your microwave oven.

  • Start by taking 250 ml of water in the 2 glass measuring cups.
  • The next step is adding 5 to 6 ice cubes to lower the water temperature. Now the water will cool after a few minutes.
  • Before the ice cubes dissolve, remove them from the water.
  • Throw the excess water if the measuring cup is extra full.
  • Keep the cups inside the microwave oven.
  • Set the temperature of the oven to the highest.
  • Calculate how many minutes it takes to boil the cold water.
  • If the water boils within two minutes, you can assume it requires 1000 wattage.
  • If it takes more than four minutes to bring the boil in the cold water, it indicates that the oven is slow, which means it requires a few wattages of around 650w to 700w.

This method is referred to as the cooking power of the microwave oven.

With this, you have to consider another factor called power consumption.

Power consumption is referred to as the input wattage, and cooking power is the output wattage.

In the microwave oven, the input wattage must be higher than the output wattage.

While installing an inverter generator, you must consider these two factors.

If you cannot figure out the power consumption of your microwave oven, there is a technique you can follow.

The average efficiency of the slow-running microwave oven is 65%.

And the cooking power of your microwave oven is 700w.

Let’s keep the power consumption of your microwave oven to X.

The formula is X * 65/100 = 700w

Then X = 1100 wattages.

Now you have calculated the power consumption of your microwave oven as 1100 Wattages.

With these numbers, you can easily determine the wattage requirement of your microwave oven.

And you also need to consider the peak wattage and the continuous wattage requirement of your microwave oven.

Peak wattage occurs when the device starts and will last up to 5 seconds.

Then it will shift to the continuous wattage condition.

During the peak surge, the power consumption will be high.

While in continuous or running conditions, the power consumption will reduce gradually.

The inverter generator must be able to handle both these power consumption conditions.

Usually, the high-rated inverter can withstand these two stages of power consumption.

Can You Run A Furnace With A Generator?

Power outages during the winter season will put you in the unpleasant situation of dealing with the excess cold. I know you don’t want to deal with this awful situation. And if you are confused about connecting the furnace with the generator or not, this article is for you.

You could run the furnace with a generator if your generator is 2500 watts or more. You should also install a transfer switch to power the furnace when the electricity shuts off. Following the safety precautions, you can also run a gas furnace with a generator with enough wattage of 1500 watts.

In this article, I will help you understand the wattage requirement of the generator to run a furnace. You will also know the safety precautions to undertake while running the furnace with the generator. So, keep reading.

Can you plug a furnace into a generator?

As a furnace is essential to keep your home warm, bad weather during snowstorms causes a power outage.

You can use the generator at such times to keep your furnace running.

Using a generator with enough wattage to power your furnace is always recommended.

You should install a transfer switch to power the furnace with the generator.

It is better to hire a professional instead of you doing this job.

Calculating the power wattage needed to run your furnace during a power outage would be best.

If you connect only the furnace to the generator, you don’t need a high-wattage generator.

If you plan to run all your appliances with the generator, you must calculate the wattage needed to run all the appliances and install a generator accordingly.

Mostly horsepower of the furnace fan determines the power the generator needs to run the particular furnace.

Let’s assume you have a gas furnace; it usually comes with a quarter-horsepower fan or the half-horsepower fan.

In the case of a quarter horsepower fan, your generator needs 1600 wattage to start the furnace.

And once it starts running, it will consume 600 watts to continue running.

And if your furnace has a half horsepower fan, your generator needs to be capable of handling two hundred watts while the furnace is starting and up to nine hundred watts to run it continuously.

Generally, high-wattage generators come with 5000 watts which would be an ample amount to power up the furnace.

You can also choose to have a small generator only to power up the furnace during a power outage, in case you want it to be portable and noise free.

Is it safe to run a furnace with a generator?

It is not so dangerous to plug the generator into the furnace if you follow all the safety precautions.

While the generator is running, keeping it outdoors is the first safety measure you have to take.

Because it produces hazardous chemicals while functioning, affecting the people’s health in the near environment.

Most people think it is safe to keep the generator indoors if the windows are wide open to give enough ventilation.

And it is not true; even with enough ventilation, the hazardous gasses released by the generators are not good to inhale.

With that said, keeping the generator outdoors also requires some safety precautions.

While installing the generators outdoors, ensure to install the carbon monoxide detector device to sense any hazardous gasses entering your home.

It is advised to keep the generator far away from your house rather than keeping it close.

You have to ensure the safety measures depend on the type of generators you use.

Let’s say you use a fuel-consuming generator, and then there will be extra fuel to fill it back into the generator.

Keep that away from the generator to prevent fire hazards.

There are battery-charged generators; in this case, you must check the battery power to keep it charged for running them when needed.

Don’t let them be devoid of charge, putting them in a terrible situation during a power outage.

As already discussed, calculate the watts required to run your furnace.

And install the generator according to your furnace’s and other appliances’ power consumption.

If you overload your generator with more appliances that require high watts, there are chances of burning and fire.

What size of generator do I need to run my furnace?

To know the exact power wattage of the generator required to power your furnace, you have to do a calculation as mentioned below.

Begin calculating by adding the starting and the running wattage of your furnace’s electronic and electrical components.

The calculation will result in the number; the formula to determine the generator’s size is 1.2 multiplied by the wattage of the furnace.

Include the wattage required by all the appliances.

The transformer, heating element, control board, blower fan, and electronics are the components of the furnace which need the power to operate.

The heating element and the blower fan consumes high wattage of current.

The other components require fewer watts than the healing element and the blower fan.

To give you an idea, the heating element of the 4kw needs 4-kilo wattage.

However, if your furnace requires 20 kW, you must install a generator of 20,000 watts.

Let’s say you have a gas furnace; in that case, it needs a power supply to these parts: Igniter, lights, sensors, inducer motor, blower fan, and control board.

In these parts of the furnace, the blower fan requires high watts.

A control board and the inducer motor also require significant watts.

In contrast, lights and sensors don’t need much electricity to function.

Calculating the blower fan’s wattage requirement in the gas furnace is important.

The easiest method of calculating the watts required by the furnace is to check the user handbook to see its voltage requirement.

Using this information, you can calculate the watts required.

You can calculate the watts required by multiplying the voltage and amperage of the furnace.

Watts=volt multiplied by amperage.

Let’s take the amperage of your furnace as 10 amps, with 120 volts.

Then the wattage required is 1200 watts.

Calculate accordingly and install the generator of specific requirements.

Will a 3500-watt generator run a furnace?

As already discussed, an electric furnace requires a thousand to two thousand watts.

A 3500-watt generator would be enough if you planned to run only a furnace with it.

If you want to run the house with a 3500-watt generator, it cannot withstand the voltage of all home appliances.

In such a case, you must plan to install another generator or replace the existing 3500-watt generator with the 5000 watts high-wattage generator.

Furnace maintenance tips to save yourself from winter

It is terrible to imagine dealing with a faulty furnace during winter.

Giving enough attention to furnace maintenance is essential to avoid faults and failures during the winter.

Here are some of the maintenance tips you have to prioritize:

  • Examine the thermostat of your furnace. Check if dirt and dust are accumulating on the thermostat. Clean it once in a while to keep the furnace efficient. If the thermostat becomes faulty, it will be hard for your furnace to regulate the temperature.
  • Air filters are essential to prevent airborne diseases and allergens from creeping into the air. So it is crucial to change it regularly. If you haven’t bothered to change the air filters even after dirt accumulation, it will affect your furnace as it works overtime to pressurize on that dirt to wipe off.
  • The tension belts in your furnace wear out over time. If you find your furnace producing wired noise, it should be because of this belt. In this case, replace the belt yourself or seek help from professionals.
  • Check the vents regularly. Clean them before they are over accumulated with dirt and debris. If these vents are clogged, it will cause carbon monoxide toxication.
  • Ensure that the blower motor of the furnace is functioning well. If you are noticing the noise while the blower motor is running, it may be because of a faulty blower’s motor or wheel. You must consult the technician to find the cause and fix the issue with the blower motor. Fix it as the technician suggests instead of deciding on your own.
  • Clean the heating elements and the ducts at the beginning of every season.

Final thoughts

Running a furnace with a generator is safe if you install a generator with enough wattage to support the voltage requirement. You will have serious damage and hazards if you ignore the importance of choosing a generator with the right power wattage to run a furnace.

Cleaning the furnace regularly to wipe off all the dirt and dust is important to maintain efficiency. Calculate the wattage required to run the furnace by following the steps mentioned in the article.

A gas furnace requires less power than an electric furnace. You can choose a generator according to the type of furnace you have. Follow all the maintenance tips required to increase the efficiency of your furnace.

I found a few solutions to fix this, which I share in this article.

Why is my coffee maker dripping slowly? (+Quick fix)

If your coffee maker is dripping slowly, you don’t need to replace the coffee maker, as I mentioned earlier.

Here are the 4 common reasons why your coffee maker might be dripping slowly.

1. Mineral buildup in your coffee maker

If you use hard water to make coffee, a mineral deposition will occur in the long run and block the water’s flow.

I know how annoying it feels when the coffee maker drips too slowly.

Hard water contains minerals like magnesium bicarbonate, calcium, carbonates, and sulfates.

These minerals will start to deposit at the surface of the coffee maker.

These mineral buildups affect the coffee maker’s efficiency and the quality of the coffee it produces.

Some of the problems caused by the mineral buildup are:

These mineral deposits reach the coffee maker’s water supply lines, blocking the water’s easy flow.

As the efficiency of the coffee maker is reduced due to the mineral deposition, it won’t bring the required temperature to extract the flavor from the coffee beans.

It will also produce warm coffee instead of steamy hot coffee.

You can fix this issue by descaling the mineral deposition as soon as you notice the white residue within the tubes and the interior of the coffee maker.

Follow this step-by-step method to dissolve the mineral deposition in your coffee maker:

  • Get the materials you need to descale the coffee maker. Take water and vinegar. Depending on the mineral buildup in your coffee maker, you can measure how much vinegar you need to descale it.
  • Now separate the carafe of your coffee maker to run it under the tap water to wipe out any leftover coffee deposits in the coffee maker.
  • Fill the carafe with the vinegar until it is half full, then dilute it with the water until it reaches the end of the carafe. For example, if you have 4 cups of the carafe, add 2 cups of distilled vinegar and an equal amount of water.
  • Attach the filter with the coffee maker, and add some more vinegar into the reservoir. Follow the exact step while making the coffee and switch on the coffee maker.
  • While doing this step, vinegar will distribute throughout the machine, dissolve the mineral buildup, and remove it effectively.
  • Run the vinegar water cycle as often as required depending on the mineral buildup in your coffee maker.
  • After this treatment, throw out all the vinegar water in the coffee maker.
  • Finally, run the machine with the normal water to get rid of the remaining vinegar.
  • If you still find the mineral deposit stubborn inside the coffee maker even after this treatment, follow the steps given below.
  • If your coffee maker has a stubborn mineral buildup, you must let the vinegar soak in the coffee maker for a certain period.
  • Fill the carafe with the vinegar and the reservoir with the vinegar.
  • Let the vinegar soak in the coffee maker for an hour. During this treatment, vinegar will dissolve and unclog the mineral deposit.
  • Now, restart the machine and let it run for a few minutes.
  • Pour the water out.
  • Fill the coffee maker with clean water and run the machine again until the machine is left with no vinegar mixture.

2. A clogged coffee maker

If you have not cleaned your coffee maker for a long period, the coffee residue and oil will build up and block the water flow, causing your coffee maker to drip slowly.

In such a case, you must unclog coffee residue from your machine.

As the model of the coffee makers differs from the company, consider referring to your machine’s user manual to know how you can locate the tubes of your coffee maker.

Here is how you can unclog the machine:

  • Disconnect the electricity from the coffee maker by unplugging the electric socket.
  • Start by rinsing the machine. Pour all the water into the sink.
  • Examine the coffee maker to locate the screws. Remove the screws from the base of your machine.
  • After opening the base, access the water tubes supplying water to the coffee maker.
  • Locate the water tubes to check if the tubes are clogged by the coffee residue, mineral buildup, and kinks.
  • If you found the water tube to be kinked up, straighten it. Sometimes these kinks will block the water flow.
  • Run the vinegar mixture through the water tube to remove any clog developed from the coffee residue.
  • Please consult the user manual to locate the valve and remove it with the precautions without damaging it.
  • Inspect if the valve is clogged. Soak the valve into the vinegar solution to remove the clog and the residue.
  • Reattach the water tubes.
  • Secure the base panel with the machine with the screws.
  • Attach back the valve from where you removed it.
  • Connect your coffee maker with the electric outlet, and run the machine. Check if your coffee maker is dripping well.

3. Loading too much coffee

It is a common mistake to load more coffee into the coffee maker when you use it for the first time.

It is important to use the right ratio while adding the coffee.

When you are not following the correct ratio, it will overflow into the countertops.

It can happen due to two reasons.

First, when you add extra coffee into the filter.

And also, if you notice, you may have grinned the coffee too thin to block the water.

Here are the possible solutions for the issues:

The solution to the issue is to use less finely grounded coffee.

Because during the brewing process, the finely grounded coffee will form a layer blocking the water from flowing.

Thus, your coffee maker will be dripping slowly.

To avoid this, you can use medium ground coffee.

When you see your coffee maker dripping slowly, probably the filter is clogged.

If the problem is frequent, run the filter under the water before brewing.

4. Faulty internal parts

If none of those mentioned above causes are creating the issue of your coffee maker dripping slowly, there must be a problem with the internal parts.

Consider referring to the user manual to understand the faulty part causing the issue.

Consider calling professionals to find the causes and fix the issue with your coffee maker.

How to prevent slow dripping in a coffee maker?

As discussed earlier, your coffee maker is dripping slowly due to the mineral buildup and residual coffee clog.

To prevent your coffee maker from slowly dripping, deep clean it at least twice a month.

After every use, you should thoroughly wash the coffee maker.

Mistakes you need to avoid while using a coffee maker

Avoid these mistakes when you make a coffee with a coffee maker to enjoy a perfect coffee.

Over brewing

The first mistake you must avoid is over brewing the coffee.

Over brewing, a coffee affects its taste making it too strong and bitter.

Over brewing occurs when you let the coffee brew in the coffee maker for longer than usual by adding excess finely grounded coffee.

For example, you should add two cups of water to one cup of coffee to make it taste good.

Even if you over brewed the coffee, dilute it with water to match the taste you enjoy.

Fill the water until the tank is full.

The second common mistake is to fill the water only until the tank is half full.

Doing this will let the coffee maker work inefficiently, resulting in weak coffee.

To enjoy a perfectly brewed coffee, fill the water in the tank until it is full while brewing the coffee.

In the end, you will sip a perfectly flavored coffee.

Preheat the coffee maker

Before brewing the coffee in the coffee maker, ensure to preheat the coffee maker.

If you don’t preheat, you will get warm or cold coffee instead of a flavourful hot coffee.

Another mistake you must avoid is adding excess water during the brewing process.

When you add excess water, coffee will taste bitter and less flavourful.

Use optimal water to make a thick, creamy coffee, and enjoy it hot.

Overfilling

As discussed earlier, you should not fill the water only until the tank is half full.

At the same time, while filling the water until the tank is full, ensure enough space is left at the top to let the coffee heat up.

If you fill the water without leaving the space for heat up, you will get a weak and bitter coffee.

Don’t place the coffee maker on the stovetop.

While making the coffee, instead of placing the machine directly on the stovetop, you can place it in a pot holder.

Because placing it directly on the stovetop will pay way to hazards.

Other common mistakes

After making the coffee make sure you wash it well.

Failing to do so will leave coffee residue remaining in the machine.

In the long run, it will lead to bacterial growth and mold formation, which will cause an undesirable smell and reduce the machine’s efficiency.

While making coffee, ensure the temperature of the water is high enough to brew flavorful and hot coffee.

Another mistake you must avoid is not cleaning the machine after every use.

This will cause a residual coffee clog. Once your machine is clogged, you have to face an issue of slow brewing and less effective functioning.

Also, it won’t be easy to clean.

Clean the mineral buildup monthly to eliminate faults and repair the machine.

Prepare a mixture of vinegar and water, pour the mixture into the machine and run the machine to dissolve the mineral buildup.

Clean the internal filters of the coffee maker to avoid clogs which would degrade the efficiency of the coffee maker.

Final thoughts

A coffee maker usually drips slowly due to the mineral deposit and clogged filter using finely grounded coffee. Examine your coffee maker to find the cause to fix the issue by following the step-by-step process mentioned earlier.

You can prevent the slow dripping of your coffee maker by cleaning it at least once a month with a mixture of distilled vinegar and water. While brewing the coffee, ensure you are not making the mistakes I mentioned in the article to enjoy a perfect coffee to kick start your day.
